Camiele’s 100 Favorite Frightening Films of All Time: 100-81

That’s right. Just in time for Halloween, I’ve decided to compile a list of the 100 scariest films I’ve ever seen. I’ve been a fan of horror films ever since my father got in his mind that I needed to watch A Nightmare on Elm Street when I was fourteen. I kid you not, he told me he wanted to gear me up to watch The Exorcist when I was eighteen. Oh, Father,. Such wonderful things you teach your child! Needless to say from that moment on I was completely hooked. As a result, my knowledge of horror films and history is kind of obscene. Yet I obviously don’t know everything there is to know about the genre I love. This is a list of the films that I’ve seen that have made an impression on me in one way or another, films that have intrigued, horrified, and entertained me from the moment I saw Freddy Kreuger at fourteen to finding a whole new meaning to the term rigor mortis.

Now, to keep this list at 100, I had to set just a few ground rules for myself. Firstly, no documentaries. As much as I love them, and as many of them out there that are truly terrifying, this list would never end if I were allowed to add them. Secondly, if a film has more than one version, I can only choose one. And finally, no films shorter than half an hour. Beyond that, anything is up for grabs.

Hopefully some of the films on this list will surprise (and possibly terrify) the readers. Needless to say, not everyone will agree with my list. Many might actually disagree quite heavily with where some of the films land. But hopefully there’s some surprising additions that will get you all pumped up for the hallowed night of tricks, treats, and possibly a little bit of horror.

Without further ado, I give you my Top 100 Frightening Films of All Time!

Cy

As unexpected as my path was to loving all things weird, more unexpected is my ability to get attention for writing about the stuff.
