Amy’s Top50 Songs of 2017
5. Chen Weilun (陈伟伦) – Happy Meeting: Wordless, A Lone Ascend Up the West Tower (相见欢·无言独上西楼)
I don’t know anything about classic Chinese poetry, so maybe this is why I find this so fascinating. The lyrics are based on the poem Moon Hook (月如钩) by Li Yu (李煜) [1], the last Emperor of the Tang Dynasty; mixed with a song that has a clear beginning, middle and end. Almost ready for a theatrical performance~
4. Residente featuring Duan Ya Wen – Apocalíptico
If Residente can mix Spanish and French, or Spanish and Mandarin so seamless into song, why can’t others? In this “apocalyptic” track, he talks about a world were no miracles happen, weather that has lost its control, a sand-ridden place, and oceans drowned by its own waves.
You can tell I’ve lost all faith in y’all xD
3. Jambinai featuring Park Min Hee (박민희) – Nightly Rain (담담히 적시고나)
Jambinai usually gets really great instrumentals [1][2] that mix rock with traditional elements of Korean folk music, in here, they managed to incorporate singer Park Min Hee’s voice for this gorgeous song for the Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People OST (역적 : 백성을 훔친 도적 O.S.T Part.8).
You can download the song on iTunes.
first of all SHIINA RINGO THIS YEARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
second, really like the drama of Chen Weilun and Ding Wei
surprised to see that Rene/Residente made a song that fits a lot of your aural aesthetic…then again he is always exploring
and yeah, Latin America makes some of the best political anthems.
I feel like Macy Gray was popular a while ago but peaked around the time she was in Spider-Man. Still hear one of her Christmas songs in the store during retail work
Was Macy Gray in Spider-Man???? I can’t remember AT ALL. lol
I was really surprised Residente came up with a song like Apocaliptico (Idiotas almost took its place, coz lol so funny, so relatable~), but he just really surprised me with this one.
Chen Weilun is like, so Western sounding, but the whole Chinese poetry makes it so Chinese without going overboard with traditional instruments.
I find it interesting that most songs Shiina has been releasing are jingles or TVCM songs, but they’re so good, they’re just songs that happened to be used in commercials. lol I was looking back and was taken aback by the fact that God nor Buddha was a TVCM for LG. xDDDDD
