Dream High
Dream High revolves around the lives of six youths trying to become stars. Kirin Art High is the school to attend if you want a path right to fame. We follow their friendships, loves, struggles, joys and tears as they do their best to attain their dreams. In between all the challenges they are forced to face, they end up finding out their true selves.
Dream High was deemed a little controversial in the fact that the majority of its cast consists of idols. There is this prejudice that singers can’t act (and vice-versa). In here that wasn’t the entire truth. Sure, the acting wasn’t the most stellar but I think that is due to lack of experience — much grief was given to Suzy who had the lead. Some of the idols are quite young.
But it wasn’t much the acting that made this drama so loveable. There was the music, the plot. I almost start crying thinking how well done this drama was. Often with the Korean dramas I’ve seen, there’s always some kind of major fail. Be it that the drama loses steam (My Princess), or they disregard logic completely (Mary stayed out all Night), to very bad endings (Bad Guy). Sorry, that’s not completely true. There was Sungkyunkwan Scandal. The only thing that sucked there was the epilogue, but in all, a good drama.
Although not original in it’s story, Dream High kept me on my toes every single episode. It was done extremely well, with a very solid red thread throughout it. It had the perfect amount of cute, music and love triangles. I really like the way it dealt with the reality that is the entertainment business, they even showed some of its dark sides. For that I appluad the production team, they dared to be a bit ballsy!
It’s far too early in the year to say that Dream High is the most refreshing Korean drama that has been aired. But I think I’m going to take a risk with that statement. Hopefully, by the end of the year I’m proven wrong. (Please Korea! Prove me wrong!)

Can I just say how amazing Kim Soo Hyun was in this drama?
I wish I could have talked about it on my review but it was getting to long so I had to cut it out.
If you haven’t watched this drama I suggest you do it for SooHyun along. The way he portrayed Sam Dong, his facial expressions, the cute dialect! Gah! He is one to keep your eyes on!
And! He can sing! He can sing and he can act and he can…. um, and he can have the ability to be extremely hot? LOL
Sounds just a tiny bit like Glee. LOL
@amy, ppl were saying that but they don’t really compare
@amy, Based on the pilot episode, not at all. Seems more among the lines of something like Step Up.
@Rodrigo, huh… so you’re watching too? xD I don’t think the dub works though, it makes the female lead extra bitchy in Spanish.
@amy, Hye Mi comes across as watchable despite the dub.
I just gotta tell you right here, Kim Soo Hyun is my favorite part of the show. I think Panamericana just showed episode 7, and I forgot to watch episode 6 haha, but so far so good. At the moment I would put it at a pretty solid 3.5/5.
and I like IU too. LOL
@amy, I need a clip of SooHyun dubbed to Spanish. In the drama he speaks this really adorable Korean accent – it’s to die for!
But Soo Hyun is what makes the whole damn drama! His character just takes you in and you can’t but love him! He is preparing for another drama and I hope it rocks. I am a little scared seeing as it is a MBC production, but I need to have faith.
@Julyssa, You might find that clip on Youtube already.
Missed half of the episodes, but for what I saw, I’d give it 3.25 for now. DH oscilates between 3 and 3.5 for me.
@Julyssa, the Kdoramas4ever YouTube channel has the episodes of Dream High dubbed in Español Latino.
