The Paperboy Trailer

The trailer for The Paperboy, based on Pete Dexter’s 1995 novel and directed by Lee Daniels (Precious), has made its way online.

The film tells a story of a young reporter (Zac Efron), investigating the potentially wrongful conviction of an inmate on death row (John Cusack). Then, trouble and temptation follow suit in the form of the inmate’s Southern belle fiancée (Nicole Kidman).

The Paperboy is set to premiere on October 5, 2012.

Call me crazy, but I think Lee Daniels is on his way to being a GREAT storyteller, if he lets himself. I only just watched Monster’s Ball a couple years ago. It’s actually a very impressive film, albeit Halle Berry didn’t exactly give an impressive performance (certainly not one worthy of an Oscar, in my humble opinion). It may take me a while to actually want to see Precious, but For Colored Girls seemed okay. I think we need more of him and less of Tyler Perry when it comes to making quality films.
