Takashi Miike’s Over Your Dead Body Trailer

The first trailer for Takashi Miike’s Kuime (喰女-クイメ-) is out.

Based on the 1825 kabuki play titled Tokaido Yotsuya Kaidan (東海道四谷怪談) by Tsuruya Nanboku, Miike’s modern version follows a stage actor named Kosuke (Ebizo Ichikawa) playing the role of Tamiya Lemon — the ruthless samurai who kills his wife — in a stage version of the play, while his lover Miyuki (Kou Shibasaki) plays the role of Oiwa, delving deeper into their respective characters, the lines between reality and fiction begin to blur until they bleed into their lives.

In the play, the man plots to poison his wife, deteriorating her health into a slow an agonizing death, until her ghost takes vengeance.

Kuime is set to open in Japan on August 23rd this year.
