Mardaani Trailer with English Subtitles

Call me spoiled by technology, but when someone announces a trailer (or music video) launch on a certain date, I’d expect it to hit the net at 12:00AM local (source) time. Sometimes I’m shocked when they organize event launches — like actual events where people (of the press) go to watch a 1-2 minute clip, especially when internet hype (YouTube views, Facebook likes, Twitter followers and retweets) is so important.

Or maybe I’m just spoiled by Kpop.

I was weirded out by the fact that the trailer for Rani Mukerji’s (one of my latest biases) and Pradeep Sarkar, the much awaited Mardaani, was to be launched at 4pm on September 24th (IST) instead of just be released online at midnight for all bloggers (and fans) to feast on. Not just for members invited to the event.

Anyway~

Meet Shivani Shivaji Roy (Mukerji), Senior Inspector, Crime Branch, Mumbai Police, as she sets out to confront the mastermind behind the child trafficking mafia, which makes the mistake of kidnapping and smuggling a teenage girl who is like a daughter to her.

Fighting a war which is very personal and in an obsessive hunt for the girl, Shivani stumbles into the world of debauchery, cruel desires and exploitation and onto a case that will change her life forever. What follows is a cat and mouse game between a fearless cop and a young and ruthless mafia kingpin.

Man, does the trailer look f*cking good. Indian actress hopefuls should be ecstatic that they live in a time where they could admire people like Rani and Vidya Balan in a somewhat changing commercial cinema scene for women on the silver screen. Why the need for fighting for fish’s sake!

And as Rani commented in her Twitter-chat with fans on Monday:

The mood of Mardaani seems to be grittier than regular commercial cinema — surrounding topic notwithstanding — but with a certain polish considering the fighting and chasing sequences. I find it a little hard to believe to see her running like that, since I’m so used to the Hollywood-thriller type of chase… but I’m always looking to be surprised.

Loads of potential here.

Mardaani opens on August 22nd, 2014. Don’t just freaking type how awesome the movie seems to be, on that date get your freakin’ bum to a theater near you if they’re playing it. Or go buy the freaking DVD when it’s out.
