Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet Trailer

Well, that looks like a total looker.

Though the biggest draw to Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet is The Lion King‘s director Roger Allers, the project has an anthology approach with segments done by Gaëtan Brizzi and Paul Brizzi (both for Fantasia 2000), Tomm Moore (Song of the Sea, The Secret of Kells), Nina Paley (Sita Sings the Blues), Bill Plympton, Joann Sfar (The Rabbi’s Cat), Joan C. Gratz, Mohammed Saeed Harib, and Michal Socha.

The film is an interpretation of the 1923 poetry book The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran following prophet Almustafa (in the film just Mustafa, voiced by Liam Neeson) on his way home stopping to discuss the matters of life and the human condition such as love, freedom, passion, pain and pleasure.

The voice cast is rounded up by Salma Hayek, John Krasinski, Quvenzhane Wallis, Alfred Molina, and Frank Langella.

The film was shown last year at the Cannes Film Festival, and will be opening this year’s Annecy Film Festival on June 15th, with a limited release by GKIDS (king distributors of alternative animation in the US) on August 7th.
