Jeff Nichols’ Loving Trailer

The trailer for Jeff Nichols’ Loving is out; based on the Loving v. Virginia civil rights case that invalidated laws prohibiting interracial marriage in 1967, when a black woman named Mildred Loving (Ruth Negga) and her white husband Richard Loving (Joel Edgerton) were sentenced to a year in prison for violating Virginia’s anti-miscegenation statute established in the Racial Integrity Act of 1924, which prohibited marriage between people classified as “white” and “colored.”

The film celebrates the couple’s courage and commitment, spending the next nine years of their marriage fighting for the right to live as a family in their hometown.

Nichols continues working with his muse Michael Shannon, who also joins the cast, after working with the director in the successful Take Shelter and this year’s Midnight Special.

Loving is expected to hit theaters in the US on November 4th, and expansions in other territories in 2017.
