George Clooney’s The Monuments Men Trailer

I’m not the only one who thinks that the trailer and premise for George Clooney’s The Monuments Men seems like Inglourious Basterds meets Argo, right? Heh, the two countries that produced Clooney’s latest film with him on the director/acting/writing seat are the same ones who did it for Tarantino’s film and the trailer has the same vibe as the trailer for Argo (which Clooney produced) because of the Kiss The Sky song [1] from Shawn Lee’s Ping Pong Orchestra, previously heard in tv shows Nip/Tuck and Eastbound & Down, which reminded me of Aerosmith’s Dream On [MV].

Based on the book The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History by Robert M. Edsel, the film will concern the story of the Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives program, an Allied group, tasked with saving pieces of art and other culturally important items before their destruction by Hitler during World War II.

The cast includes Matt Damon, Cate Blanchett, John Goodman, Bill Murray, Jean Dujardin, Hugh Bonneville and Bob Balaban.

The Monuments Men is set to premiere on December 18, 2013, just in time for awards seasons. I doubt this will top Basterds or Argo — both are my #1 films in their respective year of release — but the cast is more than talented enough to make this work as a top level film and I’m interested to see it.
