Dangal Trailer with English Subtitles

The first trailer for Nitesh Tiwari’s Dangal, the sports drama on the life of wrestler and Olympic coach Mahavir Singh Phogat (Aamir Khan), who trained his daughters, Geeta Phogat (Fatima Sana Shaikh) and Babita Kumari (Sanya Malhotra), to win India’s first ever gold medal, as well as silver, respectively, in women’s wrestling at the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

Due to the wrestling-played-by-superstar subject matter, there was this huge PR/fan drama with the release of Salman Khan’s Sultan, which was released in early July this year despite beginning to shoot later, to the point in which you can’t talk about one without the other [1][2][3][4][5][6][7].

So there~ I’ve talked about the two together.

Tiwari is coming of the success of producing Ashwiny Iyer’s (his wife) feature length debut Nil Battey Sannata, which he also helped write.

Dangal is being pushed by UTV Motion Pictures in India, which works with Disney; produced by Aamir, Siddharth Roy Kapur, and Kiran Rao (Aamir’s wife).

Though most of the actresses playing Phogat’s daughters are making their big screen debut, Shaikh once played Kamal Haasan and Tabu’s daughter on Chachi 420. Interestingly, Haasan’s daughter, Akshara, was once considered for one of the roles [1].

Dangal is set to open in theaters across India and desi-friendly areas on December 23rd. Crossing fingers Cinecolor Films Peru picks it up, considering Disney and all. That’s, of course, if people want to show that you don’t need a white Hollywood actor/director to push an Indian story by an Indian director, featuring an Indian cast and crew— RIGHT? You can’t even say that Bollywood/Aamir doesn’t have fans in Peru.

How about a PROPER release — not just in places where they watch Bollywood type of release, huh? Like Queen of Katwe [Trailer] is getting at the end of the month~
