Cloud Atlas Extended First Look

I was waiting on a YouTube Warner official upload to post this.

I have been following the development of Cloud Atlas since 2009 when Natalie Portman was linked to the project [1] — because I was a huge fan like that. Through cast drop-outs and switches, Warner finally decided to release a magnificent nearly 6-minute clip/trailer of the film by the hands of Tom Tykwer and the Wachowski brothers, who are all adapting the book — by David Mitchell — to screen and directing.

I was super psyched over the film when Bae Doona and Ben Whishaw were cast, joining an impressive list of names that includes Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, Susan Sarandon, Hugh Grant, Jim Sturgess, and… I didn’t know Zhou Xun was gonna be in it.

The six minutes are breathtaking. These are the best 30 minutes of my life, replaying a YouTube video of what I’ve seen all 2012.

I haven’t read the book — yet — but apparently it’s got to do with how life through the eras is all interconnected. I’ve seen comments of people comparing it to Aronofsky’s The Fountain, which was an equal visual fest.

Cloud Atlas is set to premiere at this year’s Toronto Film Festival in September, with UK, USA, and Sweden October release dates.
