Canaries of the North Trailer
Well, there’s been a spring of Kanae Minato book adaptations, following the mad success of Kokuhaku and Shokuzai, this time around with Canaries of the North or The Northern Canaries (北のカナリアたち, Kita no KANARIAtachi) — based on the short story titled Homework 20 Years Later (二十年後の宿題, Nijunengo no Shukudai) included in Kanae Minato’s shorts collection Oufuku Shokan (往復書簡).
The story follows Haru Kawashima (Sayuri Yoshinaga), an elementary school teacher who returns to the northern tip of Hokkaido after 20 years since the disappearance of one of her students, whom they communicate with through song.
The cast is rounded out with Kyohei Shibata, Toru Nakamura, Kotaro Satomi, Mirai Moriyama, Hikari Mitsushima, Ryo Katsuji, Aoi Miyazaki, Eiko Koike and Ryuhei Matsuda.
Canaries of the North was directed by Junji Sakamoto, and will be released in Japan in November 3rd this year.
