Abhishek Kapoor’s Fitoor Trailer with English Subtitles

If I got this in theaters… it’d be happy belated birthday to me~

Fitoor is Abhishek Kapoor’s adaptation of that broken soul emo romance that is Great Expectations that Charles Dickens published in 1861, about the doom lovers separated by social strata and the machinations of a woman with a broken heart. Kapoor’s version, of course, is set in India– Kashmir, to be exact. It is yet to be determined whether that will play a part in the plot, like in Haider.

The film stars Aditya Roy Kapoor as Noor –lil’ bro of producer Siddharth Roy Kapur… romanization of the “kapoor” notwithstanding– and Katrina Kaif as Firdaus; the Pip and Estella characters in the book, who will be brought together by Begum Hazrat that will be played by Tabu, who is the Miss Havisham of the story.

Though diva actress Rekha was set to play Miss Havisham, she step out of the role while shooting. Since then, director Kapoor (no relations with the other Kapoors) said that the scope of Begum’s story expanded when Tabu stepped in. According to IMDb, Adity Rao Hydari (who will be showing up in this year’s Wazir [1]) will be playing the young version of Tabu’s character.

The music is in charge of Amit Trivedi, and the beautiful cinematography is in charge of Anay Goswami, whose previous work includes Aparna Sen’s The Japanese Wife, Raj Kumar Gupta’s No One Killed Jessica, and Kapoor’s previous hit Kai Po Che!, which introduced Sushant Singh Rajput, Rajkummar Rao and Amit Sadh to the public unconscious.

Fitoor is set to open in India and other desi places on February 12th this year.
