Carly Rae Jepsen – I Really Like You

I have actually managed to avoid Carly Rae Jepsen’s latest hit, I Really Like You. I found Call Me Maybe [MV] really annoying on the ears — I know it sounds like an upbeat song, but there are better songs on that front — so I wrongly assumed her latest single was similarly annoying. Well, curiosity got the best of me when I read that Tom Hanks was in the song’s music video. Inevitably, this led to me watching the video and see Hanks doing his usual life routine while texting CRJ.

And then fucking Justin Bieber pops up near the end of the video for a dance scene. Someone should Fletcher out [1] Jepsen’s manager, Scooter Braun, whom is best of friends with Bieber (whom connected Jepsen with Braun) and Hanks. I can live with seeing Hanks on this, but Justin Bieber? Fuck no.

In terms of the music video — which was shot in New York — Braun told Hanks about Jepsen’s concept for the video — an unexpected guy lip-syncing the song instead of having Carly singing in it — which led Hanks to agree to appear in the video. I agree that Hanks is totally unexpected to appear in this (or any kind of music video), and he enhances the song somehow, which isn’t actually that bad and it sounds a lot less annoying than Call Me Maybe. But I do think that the amount of actors doing music videos is getting bigger each year, if I’m not mistaken.
