Top10 MTV Unplugged Latino Duets

4. Julieta Venegas featuring Marisa Monte – Ilusión

Julieta Venegas showed up a LOT in our research, not only with her own MTV Unplugged Latino collaborations — which included the participation of the likes of La Mala Rodríguez, Gustavo Santaolalla (again, also mentioned below), Juan Son, and Jaques Morelenbaum, but also her collaborations on other Unplugged shows, like the ones for Diego Torres’s Sueños [1] and Lenine’s Miedo [1].

But it’s this clip of Venegas introducing Brazil’s Marisa Monte that takes the cake for us. In it, Venegas giggles and seems to feel extra special to be collaborating with her due to Monte’s voice, that in Venegas’ words, “Can mark your soul,” which makes it extra special for us. – Amy

3. Café Tacuba featuring Gustavo Santaolalla – Esa Noche

At the time MTV invited Café Tacuba to perform in their popular Unplugged series, they were in top shape and starting to experiment with their sound. The arrangements for their songs were fantastic live and Gustavo Santaolalla, their producer, was involved directly in a couple of performances. One of them happened when the band performed El Baile y el Salón [MV]. But I enjoyed the melodic arrangement for Esa Noche a lot more. – Rodrigo
