1. Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Since the title of the Captain America sequel was first announced, fans have eagerly anticipated the arrival of The Winter Soldier. The movie delivered on its promise to nearly all fans, critics, and casual viewers; anchoring its conspiracy drama through character arcs for the Cap, Black Widow, and Nick Fury. Even SHIELD agents like Agent 13, Maria Hill, and countless unnamed employees were given agency to make and defend their ideals.

Bookended by scenes with new friend Sam “Falcon” Wilson, the film keeps centered on the theme of finding trust amidst changing times and dangers. Despite some out-there superhero sci-fi aspects, Captain America: The Winter Soldier is the rare action blockbuster that questions when and how one should start –or stop– fighting.
