YAM Loves: Doona Bae
The first time I ever saw Doona Bae was on my journey through Japanese film in Nobuhiro Yamashita’s Linda Linda Linda [Trailer] — the movie about the girls who just wanted to play The Blue Hearts’ songs at their school music festival. The movie is slow-paced, but has catchy staying power when Son (Bae), the non-Japanese speaking South Korean exchange student chosen to be the lead vocalist of the band, PARANMAUM (Blue Hearts in Korean), sings at the top of her lungs the words to the classic song~ “Linda, Linda! Linda, Linda, Linda~~~” You have to admit, a chorus like that makes it pure fun to shout out and sing in Karaoke.
I just LOVED Bae’s expression when she is supposed to be prepping for her gig~
Since then, I’ve been able to catch most of Bae’s main body of work outside TV — except for Gloria. And it’s been nothing short of amazing. General audiences might recognize her as the sexy anarchist girlfriend on Park Chan-Wook’s Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, or as the aunt who happens to be a damn good archer in Bong Joon-Ho’s family monster film The Host.
But if you have yet to see Barking Dogs Never Bite, and Take Care of my Cat, you are missing out a lot.
Thanks for posting all the BDN love, she’s amazing and I adore her. It’s good to see her finally get more attention.
@Jara, she deserves all the attention and more… I hope I get to see As One soon.
She is in Air doll of Koreeda too, one of her best performance. I love this movie and Doona too of course. Greetings!
@Mario Salazar, yes, of course! That’s on page 3 :)
I did not see the rest of the pages, great!
@Mario Salazar, no worries! Was Air Doll your first Doona Bae movie? Where did you first see her?
I saw her in 4 o 5 movies, i will keep see her in the rest of her Filmography. I like too much Air doll, this is one of my favorite movies, but I saw her for first time in Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance but she did not impress me (even that she was really good) but i started to know her, and when late i saw kooreeda´s movie, I fell in love. Nice post. Greeting!
@Mario Salazar, you should really watch Barking Dogs Never Bite and Linda Linda Linda (and Take Care of my Cat), for sure. :) Also, now that Cloud Atlas is out, it’s probably a must for Doona fans as well :)
Are you still followinf Bae Doona’s works?
Yes, we are!
