The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Your pal, your buddy, your Bucky

FRIDAY

Empire Magazine usually never dissapoints on their cover game, and here’s another good example. They will release two exclusive, fold-out Star Wars: The Force Awakens covers! Yes, two! Because there’s a villains cover and a heroes cover!

On the other side of outer space adventures, here are some behind-the-scenes Star Trek Beyond images! It’s also our first look at Sofia Boutella (who was kick-ass in Kingsman: The Secret Service with her breakdancing moves and knives for legs) as an undefined alien. Looks like, at least for that scene, she’s partnering with Chris Pine’s, Anton Yelchin’s and Simon Pegg’s characters!

There’s this lovely rumor that George Miller (who’s currently loved by geeks and critics for Mad Max: Fury Road, as he should) could direct Man of Steel 2. You know, the actual sequel of Man of Steel, unlike Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. Filmmaker and journalist Schnepp confidently claimed on Popcorn Talk’s ‘DC Movie News’ podcast that Miller would direct the sequel to Zack Snyder’s film. Yeah, I am on board with that.

The countdown of Supergirl‘s TV debut is ticking, but Melissa Benoist ain’t have time for that and she’s already inspiring little girls. Little girlscouts to be precise! Yeah, I am glad someone is catering to this demographic. I mean, just check out this cute picture:

Arrow Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim, who’s also working on Vixen, talked about how excited the team is for having theirfirst opportunity to do a superhero and a woman, and also [a person] of color. Also, MAGIC!

First of all, she represents magic, which is an area that we haven’t explored on either of the two shows just yet. One thing we’re always saying is, “Flash is very different from Arrow, Arrow is very different from Flash.” If Arrow is crime and The Flash is science, Vixen has a big magic component.

We sure had had interesting variant covers in both Marvel and DC, one using rap album inspired covers and the other joining their heroes with some Looney Tunes. Now it’s Marvel’s turn again and they are using it to show some cosplayers! OK, so I only know Yaya Han as Medusa in All-New Inhumans #1 but still, pretty neat!

So, the Naruto manga is over, and while Masashi Kishimoto may be working on a spin-off with Naruto’s son, Boruto, he’s thinking about what he’ll do next. Well, not another weekly manga, that’s for sure! Digital publication tho? That he’s interested in! Those are more flexible with page counts and publication dates. But what could his next hit be about?

I’ve already decided what I’m doing for my next work. While I was still doing Naruto, I thought about various things for material, and for the next one, I’m thinking I’m going to do science-fiction. It hasn’t all been worked out, and I haven’t showed my editor yet, but I’ve already designed the characters. Since Naruto was a bigger hit than I could ever imagine, I’d like to aim for the next hit. I don’t know when I can announce the next manga, but because I plan on challenging myself to surpass Naruto, please wait for it.

Did you love Over the Garden Wall? Of course you did! Now Cartoon Network wants to us that love to take our hard-earned money with new merch. And I am not complaining! We’ll get a DVD with bonus features, a four-issue comic series from BOOM! Studios set between episodes of the show, and limited-edition cassette “For Sara” from Mondo!

Finally, here’s a list of actresses who made bank in 2015. And on the top of it all, Jennifer Lawrence, Scarlett Johansson and Melissa McCarthy. Which makes me happy, because I like all three of them and I usually like their movies. Also, congrats to Bingbing Fan for being the only WOC in the list~

And that’s it for the week. Before I go, I want to wish Happy Birthday to Jennifer Lawrence, Robert Redford, Jonathan Frakes, Amy Adams, Andrew Garfield and Kim Cattrall.
