The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Ups and Downs, Smiles and Frowns

Greetings, my fellow geeks. The week before Superbowl has brought us lots of news. Some good, some bad and some geeky! Let’s share what the franchises (and indie productions) have for us.

SATURDAY

Golden Tomato Awards! You know, the Rotten Tomatoes’ awards… so yay! The Avengers won two things: Top User Film and Top Comic Book. Other winners include Argo, Skyfall, Cabin in the Woods, Moonrise Kingdom and Looper.

Hey, I guess they are all back! Anna Paquin, Ellen Page and Shawn Ashmore (that is Rogue, Shadowcat and Iceman) will return for X-Men: Days of Future Past. Wait, didn’t Rogue end up powerless in X-Men: The Last Stand?

Yep, we will definitely get a LEGO Marvel Super Heroes. And here’s a behind the scenes video where we see Stark Tower and some superheroes: Tony Stark (Iron Man), Captain America and The Hulk:

According to The Hollywood Reporter, J.J.Abrams may direct Star Wars VII, but he hasn’t committed to pop out the movie by 2015. So he may not have time to direct a third Star Trek movie, even if he will produce it.

Episode VII is set for release in 2015, but sources say Abrams has not committed to that release date, meaning the date could be changed if the development process requires it.

SUNDAY

Oh yes, Cobie Smulders may appear on S.H.I.E.L.D.:

The commitments to [How I Met Your Mother] don’t affect it. And I can’t really say but there are definite talks about it.

After that exclusive from IAmRogue.com, The Hollywood Reporter also interviewed her:

Joss Whedon is a genius and any opportunity that I have to say words that he has written I will take. Clark [Gregg] this is sort of his show. I love Clark and want to be apart of it. But we’ll see.

Anyway, here’s Jon Favreau being totally not bitter about not directing Iron Man 3 with an interesting metaphor:

Whether you’re dealing with pilots or franchises, the biggest contribution is when you come in and discover that cast, you find the right pitch for the show and then you create the world and hopefully other creative people can come in and build upon that. That’s been very rewarding, so it’s more like being a proud grandfather where you get to play with the baby but you don’t have to change the diapers.

Cumberbatch’s episode in The Simpsons has a date: February 10th. And Benny will play The Prime Minister… and Alan Rickman. Well, he does make a great Alan Rickman~

Tina Fey is trying to make a Mean Girls musical happen. Jingle Bell Rock is a must!

I’m trying to develop it with my husband, who does all the music for 30 Rock and I think Paramount’s onboard.
