The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Treasures of Marvel~

THURSDAY

Happy Birthday, Peter Jackson! Also, Happy Halloween on Thorsday!

Here’s an article with Malekith featurette included that talks about the villains in the MCU. Also Hiddles praises Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight because duh!

Heath Ledger’s performance changed the game. He certainly changed it for me. I’ve never seen such an electrifying performance before or since.

Director Alan Taylor talks about the humor of Thor: The Dark World, the possibility of Thor 3, and his experience working with Marvel… and about their grant plans for the MCU:

My experience with Marvel is that they are literally making it up as they go. They have a grand vision that we’ve been witnessing in Phase I, Phase II and Phase III, but literally, in the details, they make it up as they go – and I saw that up-close and personal when we were doing [Thor 2], when major elements were being worked out, really, in the making of the movie.

Also, Kevin Feige pretty much confirmed Thanos is the “end boss” in the MCU.

That’s …. we never thought of it exactly like that, but I’d say that’s a fair analogy, yes. It’s also, you look at some classic story lines in the comics and they tease out characters like that — big bads like that — for sometimes years. I think Walter Simonson was teasing Surter for years before he popped up. It’s fun to have the luxury to build somebody up like that.

So, Empire was talking with Ian McKellen about his new role as an old Sherlock Holmes in Bill Condon’s adaptation of the novel A Slight Trick Of The Mind, and we learned that Sir Ian actually knows Benedict Cumberbatch’s dad from back in the day. And the anecdote is lol-worthy in hindsight~

I’ve met Benedict a couple of times. I knew his father, Timothy Carlton, when we were both quite young, and I remember him telling me that his real name was Cumberbatch. ‘But of course I had to change it because you could never be successful with a surname like that.’

FRIDAY

Here’s Tom Hiddleston with a bunch of kids at a special screening of Thor: The Dark World from two charities. Why? Because he’s a lovely person and you will deal!

For charities like Variety of New York and Children’s Aid Society and UNICEF, who I have done some work for, I believe so strongly in their work. There are armies of people behind the scenes who do tireless work on behalf of children all over the world. So it’s nothing for me to turn up and introduce a screening for them. I hope it’s a nice reward.

Also, check out these oh so pretty new stills from Thor: The Dark World! Beware for they are kinda spoilery, though!

BTW, there’s gonna be an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. episode that related to the events of the movie. And you know what else? It’s gonna be directed by Jonathan Frakes. Yep, Star Trek: The Next Generation‘s Jonathan Frakes! Sure, he has lots of experience as a TV (and film) director, but he’ll be forever Commander William T. Riker (and ok, maybe Gargoyles‘ David Xanathos) to me!

Apparently, Jaimie Alexander has been in talks with Warner/DC, and she may “knows things” about the Superman/Batman movie. And she’s been know to talk about Wonder Woman lately… could it be?! Is Sif going to be Diana now?! OMG! Also, she’s pretty sure there’s gonna be a Thor 3 movie, and for that YAY! I mean, it is a no-brainer but it hasn’t actually been confirmed~

And that it’s for the week. Before I go, check out the latest Thor figurine courtesy of Hot Toys, as well as these lovely alternative posters of Thor: The Dark World!

  1. I wish the Expendabelles had a different title. And Jovovich is fine, but sheesh, there are so many other action ladies they could get. I think they already have Katee Sackoff and Gina Carano? This says they’re in a different Expendables movie?

“Now we are in search of a female director.”

wait wait Michelle Rodriguez said she didn’t have enough action experience?

Or something because The Expendables franchise is about older action stars in the late end of their careers

Sigourney Weaver would be good. Also Michelle Yeoh,, Zoe Bell, Lucy Lawless, Gina Torres. I see Helen Mirren as more of an action actress than Meryl, even if Meryl can do anything. Wonder if they could somehow get Pam Grier or even Grace Jones or ok I better stop now or I won’t get anything else done.

I’d really like Jeeja Yanin (from Chocolate and other Thai action movies) to appear in an American action movie, though.

@Diandra Rodriguez, Yep, apparently we have Two female Expendables movie. I don’t know what happened there xD

@Diandra Rodriguez, wasn’t the point of “expendable” that you gotta be kinda an old school action star? Sackhoff and Carano are forging themselves as action stars still. I’ll pick Lucy Liu (over Cameron Diaz), and include Michelle Yeoh, Lucy Lawless and Grace Jones xD and Linda Hamilton with a dash of Sigourney Weaver.
