The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: The Force is with me

THURSDAY

Pacific Rim 2 and Godzilla 2 are getting new names! Kaiju fandom, let me introduce you to Pacific Rim: Uprising and Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

Yay! A new Dragon Ball Super saga is coming on February 5, 2017! Sure, it was bound to happen and yet it is awesome it will finally come! And the key art has not only characters we were expecting, but some I personally wasn’t but I am happy to see. Hey, Android 17, hey! Haven’t seen you in ages! And Dragon Ball GT doesn’t count! Anyway, here’s the synopsis to the “Universal Survival” saga:

At Goku’s request, the Omni-Kings’ “Tournament of Power” martial arts tournament between universes now begins! …But this also proves to be the beginning of universal destruction. What awaits the victors of this tournament, and the vanquished…?! How will these intense team battles between the elites of each universe turn out…?!

FRIDAY

Rogue One opened Thursday in 47 countries (included mine!) and already got $33M in two days, proving we geeks are one with the Force. And since I went to a midnight screening where I waited hours on Wednesday, I will take part of that credit. Sure, it’s not the kind of bank The Force Awakens did ($72.7M), but that had that Korean market, and was the first time in forever we got to see classic Star Wars characters in the big screen.

Two websites gave us a taste of one those lovely books full of concept images, The Art of Rogue One: A Star Wars StoryWe get previous designs of Jyn Erso and K-2SO, and even a tentative lineup, as well as some spoilery art.

Also, now that we know what the movie is like, we realize many of the trailer scenes didn’t make it to the film. Most probably because of the reshoots, and they paint a different ending. Some looked frankly gorgeous and I am sad we didn’t get to see them, and then there’s the cringe-worthy one that I am glad they axed. Here’s a slideshow with them!

We won’t get Sense8 Season 2 until May 5, but we are getting the Christmas Special on December 23! Here’s the trailer:

And that’s it for the week. Before I go, I want to wish Happy Birthday to Kenneth Branagh, Bill Nighy, Jennifer Connelly, Charlie Cox and Krysten Ritter.
