The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Strange new world!

TUESDAY

It was the turn of Empire and their Deadpool covers! Dude even managed to break the fouth wall in their subscriber cover!

And back to Entertainment Weekly’s Doctor Strange special, Kevin Feige continues talking! This time about the casting of Benedict Cumberbatch, and how his popularity (and work schedule) wasn’t helping Marvel’s plans!

He was someone that we were very interested in for a very long time […] But he kept getting more popular, and more popular, and he kept getting busier, and busier, and it looked like the timing wasn’t going to work. So we looked at some other actors for a while and ultimately decided, ‘We have to try and make it work with Benedict and with his schedule.’ Which is why we shifted the production schedule around. He finished Hamlet here in London, and I think had a day off, and then went to Kathmandu, Nepal, to shoot the first day of Doctor Strange.

Feige also tried to explain Doctor Strange’s powers, which is basically he can cast spells and sorta flies, and that’s thanks to his most “signature pieces”: the Cloak of Levitation and the Eye of Agamotto.

Here’s a new look at Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander in Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, where he seems to be going on an adventure! No wait, that’s Bilbo Baggins. Newt must be late for a meeting or something.

Also, both Empire and Entertainment Weekly showed decent first looks of Michael Fassbender in Assassin’s Creed, who have never ever played the game before getting the job. Now he has, of course but “mainly to get an idea of the physicality of the character”. Talking about that physicality, what can Fassy do?

I’ve learned how to roly poly, tumble turn. Stuff you can do in everyday life. Like cartwheels. No — just basic fight choreography stuff. I did some horse stuff today. So stuff like that.

Here’s a lovely picture of new Ghostbusters, where all the girls look bad-ass, and we have a better idea about the kind of foes they will be facing off~

Dead criminals from all eras of New York’s underbelly past have returned to roost among the living in Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot. Pilgrims, old-timey sailors, Revolutionary War spirits, and even a couple of zoot-suited gangsters are ready to take on four formidable female busters looking to rid the city of its phantasmic filth.

As for Daredevil season 2, we had our first picture of The Punisher (and one with Electra). Jon Bernthal got to talk about the pressure of being The Punisher:

People have been coming up to me on the streets of New York saying, ‘Do not mess this up.’ This character has resonated with law enforcement and military. He’s brought the war home with him in the worst possible way. And the best thing about him is that if he offends you, he just doesn’t care.

On other TV series I’m really, really looking forward to, here’s an Outlander pic where Jaime and Claire look very 18th Century dapper! Costumer designer Terry Dresbach sure was happy for the chance!

France [in the 18th century] was one of the most well-documented periods of fashion in the world, so you better get it right. There is no wiggle room. Everything has to be sumptuous and lavish and every inch is beaded and embroidered. […] Getting to do 18th century French court is a designer’s dream. It’s fabulous.

On TV shows I am looking forward to because of the cast new, here’s our first look at Tom Hiddleston in AMC’s spy miniseries The Night Manager. We are also promised bromance by executive producer Stephen Garrett! And, as an inner joke, Hugh Laurie addressed Hiddles as “Pine” (his character). I’m just happy they get along!

Star Wars: The Force Awakens had a ton of deleted scenes and I want them all in the blu-ray dammit! Anyway, here’s a list of 20 scenes cut from the final film. Some of them do appear in the novelization tho!
