The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: #SayNoToHYDRACap

TUESDAY

DC Universe Rebirth #1 was released, and DC Comics released the two-page splash that appears at the end of said comicbook. The one-shot launches the renewal of the DC Universe, featuring a story by Geoff Johns and other A-list DC artists.

Talking about Geoff Johns, here’s Ben Affleck praising him to high heavens. Good thing they fanboy each other since they are working together in that new Batman solo movie for the DCEU~

I would read anything by Geoff Johns. He’s a f****** genius, I love him. I love DC. I’m really excited about where it’s going and, um, I couldn’t be more honored and thrilled to be on board and part of this DC Universe.

In most excelent news, ComiXology has got a new Unlimited service that lets you read thousands digital comics, graphic novels and manga from select publishers for $5.99 a month. The titles available will feature an “Unlimited” banner on them in the comiXology store. We’ll get series like The Walking Dead, Hellboy, Saga, Attack on Titan, Lumberjanes, Archie, Invincible, etc. Also, just like Netflix, Comixology Unlimited will eventually cycle titles in and off its catalog in the future.

Just when we thought Joss Whedon had had it with superhero movies, he went and said that he’d be into directing a “female-driven Avengers franchise”. He’s more into stories like Jessica Jones‘ rather than something like Supergirl (which are a thing his daughter wants). He also revealed that Kevin Feige had to fight a lot to get Captain Marvel movie in the MCU schedule.

Galavant cast made an awesome and adorable music video to the rhythm of Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling”, to thank fans trying to save show.

WEDNESDAY

This years Geek Pride Day (or Día del Orgullo Friki since it was invented in Spain) is going to be one that will live in infamy. Besides the usual Happy Birthday to Star Wars (the original film premiered on May 25, 1977) and the Towel Day greetings (a tribute to The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy author Douglas Adams by his fans), Marvel would give us such shocking news to make DC Rebirth take a second place in our geeky minds. And not for a good reason:

Captain America: Steve Rogers #1 gave us a horrid twist worse than M. Night Shyamalan’s movies’: Steve Rogers has secretly been an agent of HYDRA since childhood. Yep, freaking Captain America Steve Rogers is a HYDRA agen, dude even went”Hail Hydra” on our asses and shattered lots of hearts. Many fellow fangirls have been devastated by the news. And that’s something repeated around the world. And that’s why the #SayNoToHYDRACap hashtag was born. Marvel executive editor Tom Brevoort talked to TIME and USA Today before and after the knowledge was made public, and in the time of few hours he already got “passionate emails” from fans.

Right now “the most hated man” is writer Nick Spencer and he knows it. Here he talks with Entertainment Weekly about making Captain America a HYDRA plant, and with The Daily Beast about why he turned this beloved character into a villain. Frankly, I am not impressed, and apparently Chris Evans isn’t a fan of this “character development” either~

On not Captain America’s character assassination related news, Disney is in the early stages of reviving The Little Mermaid as a live-action feature. Apparently, Disney production chiefs recently heard a new take and are currently evaluating whether to proceed with the idea. That said, Universal Pictures already has their own The Little Mermaid live-action film in development starring Chloë Grace Moretz.
