The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Return of the Sith

THURSDAY

It’s poster time! Both for Matt Reeves’ War for the Planet of the Apes and Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman: The Golden Circle. But the last one also got a new synopsis!

When their headquarters are destroyed and the world is held hostage, their journey leads them to the discovery of an allied spy organization in the US called Statesman, dating back to the day they were both founded. In a new adventure that tests their agents’ strength and wits to the limit, these two elite secret organizations band together to defeat a ruthless common enemy, in order to save the world, something that’s becoming a bit of a habit for Eggsy.

OMG Joss Whedon jumps ship and goes to the DCEU! He’s nearing a deal to write, direct, and produce a Batgirl film for Warner Bros! And sources say that this version will be Barbara Gordon, daughter of Commissioner Gordon, DC Comics “New 52” version! Yep, it means the starting point will be Barbara recovering from a paralyzing spinal injury inflicted on her by the Joker in the 1988 graphic novel The Killing Joke.

Jordan Peele has got a huge of good press since the success of Get Out, and now he’s getting some interesting offers. Interesting for his career I mean, because I totally don’t want an American live-action Akira dammit! I mean, the project has been in development hell for 15 year. In Queen Elsa’s words, let it go! So yeah, he’s in talks with Warner Bros. to direct it. But Warner Bros. also threw The Flash at him, and now that’s a great project! Maybe Peele will stay long enough to actually direct it!

Here’s the Game of Thrones season 7 promo, “Long Walk”. So yep, here’s Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen and Cersei Lannister preparing to fight for The Iron Throne. But hey, mutual enemy, The Night King, is there too! Game of Thrones returns on July 16.

FRIDAY

Hayden Christensen will appear at Star Wars Celebration 2017 for the first time in 15 years. He first appeared at the event back in 2002, right around when his first Star Wars film was released. Ian McDiarmid, who portrayed Emperor Palpatine aka Darth Sidious, will also be in attendance. So, why are they reuniting the Master with the Apprentice? Sure, despite the general consensus of the prequels, they are part of Star Wars and so they will participate in a panel commemorating the 40th Anniversary of the franchise. Still, fans are overly suspicious and excitable, and so the rumors of a Darth Vader movie are alive again. Dude is more popular than ever, what with that awesome scene in Rogue One, and his appearance in both his own comicbooks and Star Wars Rebels. Is a Darth Vader R-rated movie in our future? And do we need Hayden there?

Here are the opening credits of Starz’s American Gods, and it depicts the old and new gods in totem form surrounded by neon goodness. The series premiered on April 30.

I confess I have not been as excited by this new Doctor Who series, and maybe it’s because I don’t want to see Peter Capaldi go. But this piece of news renewed my interest. Actress Pearl Mackie confirmed that new Doctor Who companion Bill Potts is gay! OK, she ain’t the first gay companion if you count the brief time Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) was there… but still! It’s the first full-time companion who happens to be gay! Now I wonder if there will be a reveal or if it’s something the Doctor already knows. Is she going to be gay in name only, or we will see her relationships, past, current or future if that may be.

And that’s it for the week. Before I go, I want to wish Happy Birthday to Lee Pace, Keira Knightley, Nick Frost, Marina Sirtis, Lucy Lawless, Brendan Gleeson, Christopher Walken and Ewan McGregor.
