The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Return of the Ladies

MONDAY

OMG! Lupita Nyong’o and Gwendoline Christie will be in Star Wars: Episode VII! Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy seemed quite happy with the news!

I could not be more excited about Lupita and Gwendoline joining the cast of Episode VII. It’s thrilling to see this extraordinarily talented ensemble taking shape.

Thrilling, indeed! We don’t know what roles will either of them play but meanwhile let’s gaze upon their beauty~

On more Star Wars news, here are some leaked pictures and they look awesome! Specially because they seems to be make-up and actual sets instead of just green screen~ OK, J.J. Abrams, I must say that already your movie looks better than the prequels. Congrats!

Here’s a humongous interview with Bryan Singer about all the X-Men movies, and the part he played in all of them. Specially things he would have made different if he had directed X-Men: The Last Stand, and many other “what ifs”. Also, he was totally going to use Quicksilver since the beginning, you guys!

Quicksilver was always in our script, but I don’t announce characters until an actor is attached to them. Because it’s a fair game Marvel character, they were informed early on that I was using him but we’re using it in such a different context, it’s not an enormous role and it’s in his youth. […] If I was a fan, and I’m looking forward to X-Men and Avengers, I’d see this as a complementary, fun experience rather than something that’s adversarial.

TV rumors and spoilers! One for a dead and one for a resurrection… sorta. First the rumor! Apparently a character from  The Walking Dead is getting killed. Well, duh! But who will be this time? Well, they say it’s poor Glen! Then, we have Lena Headey dropping what might be a major spoiler for Game of Thrones. You see, it’s not the first time she does something like this and we saw the results in the latest episode and the fate of poor Oberyn Martell… and in this case she showed her “stone heart”. Get it? Stoneheart as in Lady Stoneheart as in resurrected Catelyn Stark!

TUESDAY

Finally, good news from Marvel! Doctor Strange may have not been officially announced but it could already have a director! Or so Variety says. And the guy could be Scott Derrickson! Dude even tweeted about it, which I find cute~ It’s an interesting choice because the dude has worked on horror films like Sinister and The Exorcism of Emily Rose, and that could be a good move for a movie about the Sorcerer Supreme!

Now a couple of news about characters with minor roles~ First, some details about Thanos’ role in Guardians of the Galaxy. Yeah, the reason why Josh Brolin is only providing voice yet there’s no mention of motion capture, is that Thanos will have a tiny role in the movie and will appear only as a hologram. Everyone will have references about him and be appropiately scared tho! Also, there’s rumors that Commissioner Gordon will appear in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice… along with every popular character in DC~

Damn, Sigourney Weaver would like to revisit Ripley in a new Alien adventure! OK, Ridley Scott is interested in doing a sequel to Prometheus, but Sigourney said that she knows “young filmmakers who are interested in doing it”.

There’s more story to tell. I feel there’s a longing in certain groups of fans when I meet them for the story to be finished because we really left it up in the air and I feel a bit badly about that because I was part of that decision making process. I didn’t want to make four and five in a bundle. I think it’s hard to make these films all in a big lump. You need time to sort of let things resonate so I can imagine a situation where we could at least finish telling her story.
