The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Raising a superhero

TUESDAY

It seems Man of Steel 2 is on ‘permanent hold’. Guess another Superman solo adventure is not a high priority for Warner Bros, and they feel Henry Cavill’s time between Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League films will suffice for now. So yeah, they’d rather focus on launching a new Batman trilogy with Batffleck. Batman has been a sure bet lately. But what about the rumor that said George Miller was going to direct Man of Steel 2?! Well, fear not! He could still work for Warner and the DCEU! In fact, the dudes with the “inside info” basically said that Warner “is happy to give Miller full control”. Damn right!

J.J. Abrams talked a bit about Kylo Ren, confirming dude is not a Sith and is in fact working under Supreme Leader Snoke (villain played by Andy Serkis), who is a powerful figure on the Dark Side of the Force.

That all came out of conversations about what would have happened if the Nazis all went to Argentina but then started working together again? What could be born of that? Could The First Order exist as a group that actually admired The Empire? Could the work of The Empire be seen as unfulfilled? And could Vader be a martyr? Could there be a need to see through what didn’t get done

Some days ago, Wesley Snipes casually mentioned he’s been in conversations with Marvel about a possible new Blade something. And now it seems Marvel Studios has asked Marvel Comics to delay a bit their new Blade title… which would be about a new Blade. A girl Blade!

That new Blade is Fallon Grey, and she’s the 16 year old daughter of original Blade. It’s Buffy The Vampire Slayer if Buffy were black and her Watcher was her dad.

And that sounds awesome! Could Blade could be a girl in future movies (or even TV), together with Wesley Snipes as regular old Blade?! I wouldn’t mind that at all!

Co-creator Bryan Konietzko revealed The Legend of Korra will get complete series release on Blu-ray and DVD! Here’s a pretty nice official cover art!

Raising Dion is a brand new comicbook by commercial/music video director Dennis Liu, whose trailer is better than some comicbook movies.

Nicole, raises her 7 year old son, Dion, who has superpowers. Life was hard enough keeping up with the bills, let alone trying to keep track of her son’s invisibility, plasma powers, and telekinesis. In order to study his progress, Nicole films her son 24/7 with the help of her friend, Pat, who is an aspiring filmmaker. But when Nicole starts to notice mysterious men tailing her, and with Dion’s developing abilities constantly changing and becoming more powerful, she must find the courage deep within herself that she can raise Dion on her own.

Yep, it’s the superhero experience, told by the poor non-superhuman mother’s POV! And you know what? Watch this trailer and try to tell me it’s not perfect for Netflix. I want more and more. And I cried a bit. You can download the first issue for free here, or you could buy a physical copy too.

I always love to hear about new Shakespeare adaptation, so to learn that BBC will adapt A Midsummer Night’s Dream made me happy. Knowing that Russell T Davies, former Doctor Who showrunner, is to pen a “bold and accessible” 90-minute version of it made me even happier! That and the fact that Davies himself seems quite happy about it!

I’ve wanted to make this for the BBC for my entire adult life – and only the BBC can put on a play like this, for all the family, smack-bang in the heart of primetime.  With a riot of prosthetics, CGI, magic and action, it needs the brilliant Doctor Who team in Cardiff to bring it to life.

Look who’s in the TV Guide cover! Well hello Heroes Reborn returning cast member Masi Oka a.k.a. Hiro Nakamura, and series newcomer Zachary Levi a.k.a Luke Collins!

Apparently, Viola Davis has a three picture deal with Warner Bros to play Amanda Waller! That doesn’t mean there will be three Suicide Squad movies tho! Maybe The Wall will appear in other DCEU movies!

This is my first big superhero movie. I signed on for three, so it needed to be a great experience. This was a role that was just there to be fun. It was a chance to work with Will Smith, you know?
