The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: One bad day away

TUESDAY

Ohai, new High-Rise poster that totally reminds you of Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange!

The screenwriter for Black Panther, Joe Robert Cole, talked about the “historic opportunity” this film is, with its black hero who will give young black men some valuable representation.

Black Panther is a historic opportunity to be a part of something important and special, particularly at a time when African-Americans are affirming their identities while dealing with vilification and dehumanization. The image of a black hero on this scale is just really exciting. When I was a kid, I would change superheroes’ names: Instead of James Bond, I was James Black. Instead of Batman, I was Blackman. And I have a three-year-old son. My son will be five when Black Panther comes out. That puts it all into perspective for me.

WEDNESDAY

Voice actor Khary Payton (Aqualad and Cyborg) said that Netflix might renew Young Justice for Season 3, you guys! Yep, Netflix is right now checking at numbers now they have both seasons, and if they see what they like then maybe we could get the last (or maybe the first of more) season the fans waited since 2013. So yep, that’s a good excuse as any to rewatch (or watch for the first time) Young Justice!

Talking about superhero shows in Netflix, here’s a character poster of Luke Cage, and while it was posted on Jessica Jones‘ twitter, it might be a teaser for Luke Cage‘s own series~

Here’s the first look at Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, where everybody is in backlight and Groot is still an adorable sapling! Also, Kurt Russell has officially joined the cast since his name appears in the press note that announced the beginning of principal photography.

Jaimie Alexander talked about how she was on the run to play Wonder Woman, but she knew it wasn’t going to happen because she’s a Marvel woman. She also used to time to shade DC comics a little bit~

I was one of a few people that were an obvious choice for Wonder Woman, but it was never going to happen. I’m contracted with Marvel and it would (be) strange. Sif, in her way, is Marvel’s Wonder Woman. They’re both ethereal and have armor and a sword, and have special abilities; the physicality of the role is very similar. The thing I really enjoy about Marvel is that they start with a character first and all the explosions and costumes, the glitz and glam, are secondary to who the actual character is deep down. That’s something I haven’t really been able to find with DC Comics. I know that’s a bold statement, but it’s been my experience.

Despite all the people that’s gonna be in Captain America: Civil War, Chris Evans wanted to reassure us that the film is totally about Cap and his feels!

Even though there are a lot characters, the focus is on Steve and his struggle. Especially his struggle with Tony Stark. It’s exciting to see a guy who’s as optimistic and as selfless as Steve be met with letdown, betrayal, frustration, and selfishness. There are events and people in his life that test him—that challenge him and force him to reevaluate who he is and what he wants out of life.

Before directing Deadpool, Tim Miller actually had a hand kickstaring the MCU! How? Well, he was hired to create a CG animated short that featured Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Hulk nearly 10 years ago. Back then they wanted to make the first Iron Man movie, but he wasn’t really a well-known character at the time, and Marvel needed to get kids pumped up for the character. The whole story was told by Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer, Joe Quesada, on his Tumblr. Here’s the result:

It seems that Julianne Moore is in talks to play the villain in Kingsman 2! Taron Egerton, who’s back in the role of Eggsy, said last month in Sundance that “it’s a far more international story, we’re going to some incredible places, and we have a villain to rival Samuel L. Jackson”. And that is quite promising for Julianne’s role if she ends up taking the job. But not everything is happy news on that franchise, at least not for me. All the plans to have Colin Firth reincorporated either via flashbacks (yay) or an identical twin (not so yay) have been discarded, so no Colin in Kingsman 2 (boo!).
