The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Merc with a Mouth!

THURSDAY

Deadpool is out of Development Hell! Yes, The Merc With A Mouth will finally have his own movie! And I hope it totally ignores the existence of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The movie will hit theaters on February 12, 2016. VFX veteran Tim Miller will direct and, although it hasn’t been confirmed, Ryan Reynolds will probably be back to play the titular character. Reynolds has been very enthusiastic about it since the test footage was shown and everybody loved it:

The movie has been in a state of limbo for a while. There was such an overpowering reaction to the footage, you sort of feel like, ‘Oh, so we weren’t crazy for our reasons for loving this character, for loving this role.’ It’s interesting to see the power of the Internet. It’s awe-inspiring, actually. And it’s neat that Twitter and Facebook and Instagram can move mountains when used in the right way.

Taking about test footage, here’s the one for the Popeye movie that will be directed by Genndy Tartakovsky! Looks fine, and I do love the fluidity of Olive’s movements~

The synopis of The Walking Dead season 5 has been released, and here’s part of it:

What follows is a story that weaves the true motives of the people of Terminus with the hopeful prospect of a cure in Washington, D.C., the fate of the group’s lost comrades, as well as new locales, new conflicts, and new obstacles in keeping the group together and staying alive.

Josh Brolin talked about his Marvel experience and he has nothing but praise for all of them:

(When) I met with those Marvel guys (Marvel Studios co-president Louis D’Esposito and president Kevin Feige) … I just loved seeing them and what they were about. They’re really just kind of geeks (for) story. They love story and they don’t try to hide it under any kind of coolness. […] The Coen brothers are the same way. P.T. Anderson is the same way. So I don’t really see any difference between my conversations with Marvel and my conversations with P.T. Anderson.

Zachary Quinto said that Star Trek 3‘s production will start “sometime in the next six months”. And then Trekmovie’s scoop claimed that Roberto Orci will star production mid February, 2015. So yep, things are on track! We might get the movie by Summer 2016 (which happens to be the 50th anniversary year for the franchise).

J.J. Abrams and Zack Snyder have had a adorable twitter war over Star Wars/DC characters, that climaxed with J.J. Abrams showing a video of the Millenium Falcon and there’s a Batmobile Easter Egg. It’s glorious!

FRIDAY

The MCU has reached $7 billion at the worldwide box office! Get money, Marvel!

Remember that part of Man of Steel where Supes is floating on the ocean after saving the guys at the oil rig? And whales happend to be near? Yep, it was totally Aquaman, and I guess that will be seen in flashback mode in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Also, Jason Momoa is a surfer Aquaman with tribal tattoos and stuff.

Also, Warner Bros wants to make a Suicide Squad movie and is eyeing David Ayer to direct! The story is a team of supervillains who were given a second chance by the government for redemption… but as the title implied, most of them end up dead. Amanda Waller must be there though, since she is a ruthless Nick Fury. And maybe Harley Quinn because she’s damn popular.

Oh yeah, that Supergirl TV series DC is trying to pitch? It will happen on CBS and will be totally called Supergirl! Also, the plot totally implied the existence of Superman, so I guess he could have a small part in the series?

[It’s a]drama about Kara Zor-El, the DC Comics heroine who escaped the planet Krypton amid its destruction. Having hid all this time on Earth the powers she shares with “her famous cousin” (as the official logline cheekily puts it), 24-year-old Kara decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and “be the hero she was meant to be.”

Jenna Coleman is totally going to be in the Doctor Who Christmas Special, despite some rumors. If she survives it or remains, that will be seen. Besides that we will get Nick Frost and son of Second Doctor Patrick Troughton, Michael Troughton to guest star in the Christmas episode!

And that it’s for the week. Before I go, I want to wish Happy Birthday to Tommy Lee Jones (15), Tom Hardy (15), Amy Poehler (16), James Marsden (18), Jimmy Fallon (19) and Jeremy Irons (19).
