The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Marriage of art and culture

MONDAY

Happy New Year! Many of the movies I care about had some promos apropos of today! Director James Wan shared an Aquaman behind-the-scenes picture with a Happy New Year wish via Twitter. Black Panther‘s official Twitter account shared a new image of T’Challa and Nakia looking good in fancy duds as they wished fans a Happy New Year. Disney also released a New Year’s promo for Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2, and a (literal) toast to an incredible New Year, courtesy of Pixar’s The Incredibles 2.

Director Rian Johnson said the truth about Rey’s parents revealed in Star Wars: The Last Jedi is “still open”. To which I say, nah fuck it, close that door. Barricade that shit. I love your original idea sir, I hope J.J. Abrams and Chris Terrio chicken out and decide to comply to some whiny fans that want her to be some important last name.

Anything’s still open, and I’m not writing the next film. [J.J. Abrams and Chris Terrio] are doing it. With all of these movies, Obi-Wan’s whole speech about a certain point of view always applies, so I think that you have to always think about the context of how information is given. But for me, dramatically, that’s why that reveal at that moment made sense.

Habemus Black Panther character bios! Here are the ones for the ladies: the warrior, the spy and the princess~

Directors Joe and Anthony Russo talked about Thanos’ motivations in Avengers: Infinity War.

I’m most excited for the audience to learn about [Thanos]. I think he’s a very interesting and complex villain. That’s why I like him, that’s why I’m excited for the audience to learn about him. I think his motivations are, albeit, psychotic, compelling, and I think that this, in a lot of ways, is his movie, so it’s going to be very interesting to see how people respond to Thanos.

Well hey, in this promo for the two-hour season finale of The Gifted, Polaris’s father gets mentioned (but not namedropped). And if you know your X-Men, you know that’s Magneto!

Count Olaf himself shared a sneak peek at season 2 of A Series of Unfortunate Events, premiering March 30 on Netflix~
