The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Mads stranding!

THURSDAY

Habemus new trailer for Death Stranding! Game developer Hideo Kojima unveiled a new trailer for his upcoming videogame during the Game Awards event in Los Angeles. This time we don’t have CGI Norman Reedus, instead it was revealed that Mads Mikkelsen has joined the game’s cast, as well as director Guillermo del Toro, who’s a friend and collaborator of Kojima. At this rate, dear Mads is going to be typecast as the actor to go for when you need weird stuff around his eyes~

Great news for people in US of A! Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is in talks to open on Broadway in 2018. I mean, it’s two years from now but still! I bet it will be ages before it opens in lesser countries like mine~ Anyway, Broadway’s Lyric Theatre will be completely redesigned, remodeled, and reconfigured from 1,900 seats to approximately 1,500. We need to accomodate all those special effects! And it will be a tad more cossy, innit? J.K. Rowling is “fully, fully supportive” of the whole thing:

I’m delighted we are one step closer in bringing Harry Potter and the Cursed Child to Broadway and very excited by the proposed plans.

My lovely Katheryn Winnick (Vikings‘ Lagertha FYI) was once a fan favourite to play Captain Marvel, but now that the role is now in Academy Award Winner Brie Larson’s hands, Winnick has expressed an interest in playing DCEU’s Black Canary. If DCEU were to make a Green Arrow movie that is.

A new series of animated shorts pitting the Funko versions of Marvel characters against each other has come… and it is freaking adorable! The first one is named “Spellbound”, and it features Funko Loki facing off against Funko Iron Man and Funko Spider-Man. The other two are “Bait N Switch”, where Funko Rocket Raccoon breaks into the Collector’s museum to rescue Funko Groot, and “Chimichangas”, where Funko Deadpool will battle it out with Funko Venom!

FRIDAY

Here we have what it seems to be our first look at Thor and Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok! In this supposed promo art (it has yet to be confirmed as official), we have Thor has misplaced Mjölnir but found his helmet! We haven’t seen it since those few minutes of his first solo movie. Also, Hulk with a kick-ass armor.

Rogue One director Gareth Edwards continues the fine tradition of steeling props from movies! Yep, dude is a real life rebel and stole the actual Death Star plans from the set. He revealed this during during a special live event at Facebook HQ, where many of the main cast was also present: Riz Ahmed (Bodhi Rook), Diego Luna (Cassian Andor), Donnie Yen (Chirrut Îmwe), Alan Tudyk (the droid K-2SO), Ben Mendelsohn (villain Director Orson Krennic), and star Felicity Jones (Jyn Erso). Also, some lucky bastards had the opportunity to watch about 28 minutes of footage from the film, and their reactions are have started piling up on social media. And, despite some worries because of extensive reshoots, it seems the movie is great! Or at least, it’s great for 28 minutes at least~

Welp, Aquaman release date has been pushed back by Warner Bros. to October 5, 2018 rather than in July.

Sadly, we have to end on a dissapointing note this week, with Bryan Fuller confirming he’s not involved with Star Trek Discovery anymore. We are only left with his first two episodes for the show, an executive producer credit, and a pledge from CBS that they would “see his vision through”.

I’m not involved in production, or postproduction, so I can only give them the material I’ve given them and hope that it is helpful for them. I’m curious to see what they do with it. Ultimately, with my responsibilities [elsewhere], I could not do what CBS needed to have done in the time they needed it done for Star Trek. It felt like it was best for me to focus on landing the plane with American Gods and making sure that was delivered in as elegant and sophisticated a fashion as I could possibly do.

And that’s it for the week. Before I go, I want to wish Happy Birthday to Alfonso Cuarón, Karen Gillan, Don Cheadle, Chadwick Boseman, Ridley Scott, Zoë Kravitz, Alfred Enoch and Lucy Liu.
