The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Life, uh, finds a way

TUESDAY

OMG! Jeff Goldblum has been confirmed to return as Dr. Ian Malcolm in the Jurassic World sequel! By the time this movie premieres (June 22, 2018), it would be over 20 years since we last saw Goldblum in this role since The Lost World: Jurassic Park! He the second original cast member to rejoin the franchise after B.D. Wong appeared in Jurassic World. His character Dr. Henry Wu will also return in the sequel. I do wonder what their relationship will be! We just need Sam Neill as Dr. Alan Grant and Laura Dern as Dr. Ellie Sattler for an awesome reunion!

Anyway, Fox wasn’t the one who shared its release dates. Disney also went and gave us the dates for Captain Marvel (March 8, 2019), Star Wars: Episode IX (May 24, in 2019), Toy Story 4 (June 21, 2019), the live-action The Lion King (July 19, 2019) and the Frozen sequel (Nov. 27 in 2019). Disney also moved around some dates, and thus the new Indiana Jones movie has been pushed back by a year (July 10, 2020 instead of the previous July 19, 2019), Gigantic by two years (leaving its Thanksgiving spot in 2018 for November 25 of 2020), Ralph Breaks The Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 took that Thanksgiving holiday on November 21, 2018 (instead of its original release date of March 9 of 2018), Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle in Time now got pulled up to March 9, 2018 (instead of April 6, 2018), and its original date now goes to Magic Camp (instead of August 3, 2018).

Brie Larson talked about what led her to accept the title role in Captain Marvel, MCU’s first movie starring a female lead. Basically, GIRL POWAH!

Ultimately, I couldn’t deny the fact that this movie is everything I care about, everything that’s progressive and important and meaningful, and a symbol I wished I would’ve had growing up. I really, really feel like it’s worth it if it can bring understanding and confidence to young women — I’ll do it.

Here’s the Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite story trailer, where we can see the main villain! Marvel’s Ultron and Capcom’s Sigma are now joined together as “Ultron Sigma” by the Infinity Stones. The game will arrive September 19, and it’s realistically the one game I will actually play, because as much as I love cinematics and the main storyline of this or that game… I am a terrible gamer!

WEDNESDAY

Want to know what happened to Dr. Elizabeth Shaw and David after Prometheus? Here’s the Alien: Covenant prologue, released as part of the Alien Day festivities, to answer your questions! Basically Dr. Shaw was kind enough to put him back together, and then David had to be an ass and, apparently, screwed up the Engineer’s homeworld.

David Fincher will direct the World War Z sequel, which will also have Brad Pitt as the lead. Just like with the original film, the sequel has had some problems to take off. What with losing its original director J. A. Bayona (Jurassic World 2) in early 2016 and then was put on an indefinite hold this past February due to Pitt’s divorce proceedings. But hey, production is now back on track and will start in early 2018 for a 2019 release.

Joe Johnston, director of Captain America: The First Avenger, will helm The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair, which apparently will be both a continuation and soft reboot of the original 3 films. The story focuses on Eustace Scrubb (played by Will Poulter in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader), who travels to Narnia in an attempt to rescue the kidnapped child of Prince Caspian.

Considering the four year gap between Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and the events of Avengers: Infinity War, some people wondered if Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. may be set somewhere in that gap. James Gunn told us to calm down, the third movie will definitely be set after Avengers: Infinity War‘s events! Also, since Gunn is acting as an executive producer for the Avengers epic, he’s been on set and heavily involved with the development of the Guardians. He just can’t abandon his babies!
