The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Let’s Talk About X~

WEDNESDAY

Here are a couple of assembled casts pictures! First, The Hollywood Reported shared a cool group photo of Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad casts, so yes, those are the first stints on DCEU (DC Extended Universe)! Then, there’s Entertainment Weekly and its show of the Marvel/Fox universe with the casts of X-Men, Deadpool, Fantastic Four, Gambit and Wolverine. So much epicness!

Ezra Miller talked about being The Flash in films, when there’s currently another dude (Hey, Grant Gustin, hey!) playing The Flash in TV. Dude ain’t even bothered, and it’s pretty chill about it (and clearly showed he read some source material)~

Come on, we’re The Flash! It’s parallel universes! Grant Gustin is The Flash and I’m The Flash – don’t you see? It’s the Event Horizon, we crossed it baby! Grant and I are chilling. We’re gonna have a race – it’s gonna be dope! Like Jay Garrick and Barry Allen back in the day!

Talking about DC on The CW, Constantine may be resurrected on Arrow! Seems Season 4 is going to delve heavily into mysticism, which means John Constantine right?! Executive producer Wendy Mericle talked on SDCC about the possibility (pretty please!):

Yeah, we really want to do it. It’s something we’ve been talking to DC about and it’s just a question of some political things, but also the actor’s schedule. We’re trying to work it out, but we don’t know 100 percent if it’s going to happen. […] But we’re really optimistic and we would love to have him

Now that we are into the crossover theme, here’s a weird one: Sleepy Hollow and Bones. I mean, I casually watch those shoes and like them for different reasons, but it would’ve never crossed my mind to crossover them! Wow… I cannot wait to watch that lovely trainwreck! Maybe it will even turn out fine! The crossover will be across two episodes, one on each show, and it’s being planned for the 2015-16 season.

On a different note, my fav Noelle Stevenson got interviewed by Vanity Fair! She talks about Nimona and Lumberjanes, including their film adaptations, the Hawkeye Initiative, and the one kind of woman we get at the movies because there’s a lack of representation and, once again, why Mad Max: Fury Road is awesome:

Without variety you end up with this one archetype and you see her a lot, you see her in everything. She’s the one action woman and she’s often very likable, but she’s vetted and approved to have the widest appeal. She never gets too funny or too goofy. She doesn’t really fail at things, usually. It’s an O.K. character, but it’s most of what we see. Even Furiosa in Mad Max— a great character and I love her a lot—if she were the only female character in that movie, she would absolutely fit that bill of what I said. But what was really special for me was the wives and the Vuvalini in Mad Max.

Kamala Khan has become the first Marvel hero who gets a graphic audio adaptation! Called Ms.Marvel: No Normal, it adapts Ms. Marvel #1-5 and will be available on August 17. You can here a bit of Volume 1 here:

Grant Morrison talked about the plans for Wonder Woman: Earth One, going to the roots of Wonder Woman, not doing the whole “warrior woman thing” and removing all phallic objects… which means The Invisible Plane is now shaped like a vagina, including a little clitoris hood and stuff. That means I have to read this.

THURSDAY

Here’s Entertainment Weekly’s exclusive first look at the new mutants of X-Men: Apocalypse! Frankly, Apocalypse himself looks kinda sh*tty. The rest look great, except for Nightcrawler because of new X-Men problem with blue-skinned mutants. Anyway, here’s what

Evangeline Lilly talked the importance of her role as Hope/The Wasp in Ant-Man, because Marvel needs to do right by their female heroes dammit!

I think there is a lot of excitement from female audiences about this character, in general, and about the fact that Marvel are really, really taking female characters very seriously. Looking at their line-up, you can see that they have great intentions. And as a woman who came into a predominantly male film, I had a great time working with Peyton and the producers on this character because I could see a hunger in them to really, really do right by Hope and by their female fans and by the female audience.

Talking about the importance of female roles, Guillermo del Toro talked about how gender-liberating and female-centric Crimson Peak is. And I want to watch that movie like yesterday!

I wanted to create a really classical, lush, lavish gothic romance that hasn’t been done for a while. It’s a female-centric movie that has strong protagonists […] It has twists that, shall we say, are more gender-liberating. I wanted it to be scary and I wanted it to be gorgeous. It’s one of the three favorite movies I’ve done and it’s the most beautiful movie I’ve made.
