The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Leaving early~

THURSDAY

Sir Terry Pratchett, one of my favourite Fantasy author, passed away at 66, after fighting Alzheimer’s disease for 8 years. He was surrounded by his family “with his cat sleeping on his bed”. That’s not a bad way to go. Terry wrote over 70 books, over half of them belonging the famous Discworld series. He completed his final book last year, and we hopefully get to read it this year. His death was also announced on his Twitter in a fitting way, with a little story over three tweets, where the author met his character Death who speaks with capital letters.

The first Star Wars spin-off gets an official title, Rogue One, and Star Wars Episode VIII gets an official release date, May 26, 2017. Considering that spin-off will premiere on December 16, 2016; that means we will get two Star War movies in less than five months! I’m not complaining.

Oh, we are also totally getting Frozen 2, surprising no one considering it’s one of Disney’s best grossing animated movies! Come on! $1.2 billion worldwide! We don’t have an official release date yet, but Kristen Bell sure seems happy about it!

Considering the rumor of young Spider-Man, Asa Butterfield’s name was mentioned everywhere. But what does the 17-year-old actor thinks about this? He’s so down!

I can do ‘thin little bespectacled dweeb‘ pretty good, not far from myself actually.

Wonder Woman gets new clothes! Girl is pretty covered this time which is good. Sadly, not many people like the clothes. I do though. She looks tougher and I like the switchblades.

Habemus Deathstroke! Yep, Joe Manganiello will take over the role for David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. Dude was going to be part of comedy horror anthology Scream Queens, but he left it in order to be part of Suicide Squad, because there were going to be scheduling conflicts.

Also, new details on Jared Leto’s Joker in Suicide Squad, according to the dudes from Latino Review.

He’s lean & scarred but his suit does have broad shoulders. Joker works out in his cell like an inmate when he is interrogated by Amanda Waller. He’s doing hand stand push ups so it makes sense that Jared Leto said he is putting on weight. He’s definitely not skinny, but in fact more muscular. He has bleached skin not make up. He’s killed one of Batman’s sidekicks, there is a lot of references to his past crimes. He kills a lot of people.

We finally have news on Kung Fu Panda 3! Including new characters, synopsis and we could have teaser trailer before Home!

Po continues his now legendary legendary adventures of of awesomeness and must face two, hugely epic, but very different threads. Po has saved the world countless times, but none of that has prepared him for his greatest challenge yet – pleasing 2 fathers. Po reunites with his biological father (Bryan Cranston) and returns to his birthplace, yet soon realizes he doesn’t fit in. There he meets the overly eager Mei Mei (Rebel Wilson), who has been promised an arranged marriage to Po. Po must also battle an evil spirit called The Collector (Mads Mikkelsen), who is able to steal the powers of every Kung Fu Master he defeats – and his sights are set on Po.

Sony has killed the dream I dreamed of  the CGI Popeye movie~ Genndy Tartakovsky revealed that in an interview and it made me kinda sad. The animation test was cute!

Popeye, at least, we put up a great screening, everybody really liked that sizzle, we got a positive reaction. I was in love with what we were doing, but I think the studio is going through changes and I don’t know if they want to make the Popeye that I want to make. So they’ve got to make a decision…It was hard to let Popeye go, but that’s the business.

Dammit, Sony!

Let’s end this week talking about how HBO doesn’t want to make a Game of Thrones movies because they don’t want fans to pay extra $16 bucks to see the ending on a big screen… Also, the TV executives want to milk this series to the ground, even with 10 seasons. George R.R. Martin tho? Dude is totally on board!

Sure, I love the idea. Why not? What fantasist would not love the idea of going out with an epic hundred million feature film? And the recent success of the IMAX experience shows that the audience is there for such a movie. If we build it, they will come. But will we build it? I have no bloody idea.

And that it’s for the week. Before I go, I want to wish Happy Birthday to Tobias Menzies (7), Bryan Cranston (7), Oscar Isaac (9), Alex Kingston (11), John Barrowman (11), Anton Yelchin (11), Aaron Eckhart (12) and Jaimie Alexander (12).
