The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Infinity feels~

FRIDAY

Another day, another teaser for Summer 2015 in Marvel comics. This one is Avengers vs. X-Men… Again? What what WHAT are you doing Marvel? But it seems this time we have some Inhumans and Deadpool in the mix!

The Marvel announcement came and went, and geeks still feel the aftershocks. Here are Robert Downey Jr. opinions, first on Joss Whedon’s writing skills. Which are good, because Whedon gives some of the best lines to Iron Man~

First of all, he’s a good writer. I always tend to think, generally speaking, is this a movie I want to see? Because all the fine points are going to get worked out. This time, I think that from jump I thought wow, this is what I hadn’t figured out beforehand. This is what Avengers: Age of Ultron should be.

Besides, he looks happy to be still be part of the Marvel family, and not just because the pay is good!

It’s a commitment but I love being a part of it. […] She (his wife Susan Downey) knows I get happy when I get to put on the beard and go out and make faces with Chris Evans and listen to Kevin Feige get excited. She knows I am going to come back in a good mood.

On the Fox/X-Men side of Marvel news, Potatum is officially Gambit. And I am not entirely happy with the decision. But I will still watch the movie, because I love Gambit, and I don’t actually hate Channing Tatum. It’s just that I don’t believe he’s the right dude for the job. Oh yeah, the movie also has a writer! It’s Robocop scribe Josh Zetumer. OK, that’s not too shaby.

Christopher Nolan heard about DC’s film slate and had some things to say. Things that remind me of what the Russo brothers had to say. Specially mentioning Westerns.

Yes, DC Comics have just announced an enormous number of movies. Well, you know, as long as that’s the ride people want, the studios will continue to offer it. I don’t see it as a limited genre. If I did, I never would have worked for almost ten years in that genre. I think like any genre, like the Western, it has limitless opportunities. It’s just about the audience’s appetite. What’s very important is that the studios be open to making other sorts of films at the same time.

Now, let’s talk Wonder Woman. There’s one interesting (yet unlikely) rumor and a sucky (and maybe truthful) one. The interesting (yet unlikely) one claims that the Wonder Woman movie will be set in the 20s, after some dude goes to Paradise Island, interrupts vying factions, asks for help and takes Diana/Wonder Woman to see the world. Now only that but it’s part of a threequel, and the second movie will be about World War II. Yeah, so these Amazons never age? Or how is she supposed to met Batman and Superman in modern times. Is it time-travel?

The sucky (and maybe truthful) one claims that nope, no female directors have been called to possibly direct the movie. Just guys. I really hope this one is not true, but I am not putting it past freaking Hollywood.

On more female badasses news, here’s the first look of Bennet sisters from Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Yep, they look great.

Remember how J.K. Rowling promised to give us more Harry Potter on Halloween? Here’s an engaging biography of Dolores Jane Umbridge, the one many Harry Potter fans hate more than Voldemort. Yep, all the back story needed. And most is interesting, like her being half-blood. It would have been interesting if she had not made her a Slytherin like most of the bad people. Also, interesting is that she is based on an actual person J.K. Rowling knew and didn’t like at all.

As she grew older and harder, and rose higher within the Ministry, Dolores’s taste in little girlish accessories grew more and more pronounced; her office became a place of frills and furbelows, and she liked anything decorated with kittens (though found the real thing inconveniently messy). As the Minister for Magic Cornelius Fudge became increasingly anxious and paranoid that Albus Dumbledore had ambitions to supersede him, Dolores managed to claw her way to the very heart of power, by stoking both Fudge’s vanity and his fears, and presenting herself as one of the few he could trust.

On more Halloween news, “Blink” (written by Steven Moffat in 2007) was voted the scariest Doctor Who episode! In fact Steven Moffat has three of his stories in the top 5. The other two being Midnight (written by Russell T. Davies in 2008) and he Seeds of Doom (written by Robert Banks Stewart in 1976).

On more Doctor Who news, the finale “Death of Heaven” will be a special extended episode running to 60 minutes!

Finally, Neil Gaiman is an ominous bastard who wants to write for Capaldi’s Doctor before he loses his chance. What’s that supposed to mean? We have more seasons, right? Right! Also, he talked about the kinds of episodes he would write. Surprise, surprise, it’s scary stuff!

I haven’t done an episode set on Earth yet, and I haven’t created a new monster. So there are boxes left to tick. And there’s part of me that feels… I haven’t scared anybody yet. I’d love to do something that sends adults behind the sofa too and makes them wee.

And that it’s for the week. Before I go, I want to wish Happy Birthday to Matt Smith (28), Julia Roberts (28), Bill Gates (28), Joaquin Phoenix (28), Winona Ryder (29) and Peter Jackson (31)!
