The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: I am an immigrant

SATURDAY

I kinda love when they make viral videos as a promo for movies. So here’s one for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, from The Dinosaur Protection Group, where Bryce Dallas Howard works with children to save the dinosaurs~

Before the Oscars, comes the Razzies, and as expected, The Emoji Movie won big at this year’s awards! It got Worst Movie, Worst Director, Worst Screenplay and Worst Screen Combo!

SUNDAY

Avengers: Infinity War character promo banners reveal some new details on many of the main players… like what is Thor doing with both eyes! And will Spider-Man be officially called Iron Spider in the movie?

Black Panther officially passed $500 million at the domestic box office in its third weekend on release! Like damn, T’Challa! Get even more money! Globally, the film stands at $897.7M, and is set to open in China this Friday. I wouldn’t be surprised if Black Panther joins the $1 billion club very soon.

Black Panther might be still making money at the box office, but it’s also getting ready for its Blu-Ray release! There is an edition with an exclusive steelbook and a 40-page gallery book, and another with a pretty nice packaging art!

John Williams said he’s finally done composing for the Star Wars saga after Episode IX. Damn, just like he says Disney will keep up with the franchise for years to come… but who could make music for the future Star Wars movies? Michael Giacchino who scored Rogue One: A Star Wars Story? Or John Powell who will score Solo: A Star Wars Story (with some help of John Williams who wrote its theme).

J.J. Abrams is preparing one now that I will hopefully do next year for him. It will round up the series of nine that will be quite enough for me. Disney will take it further and they will probably continue on to do Star Wars for decades. So I think it’s all good.

The Shape of Water won The Academy Award for Best Picture, and Guillermo Del Toro won Best Director! The film also got Best Score and Best Production Design. Also, Coco won Best Animated Picture and Best Song for “Remember Me”. Here’s Guillermo del Toro’s lovely speech for his directing win:

And that’s it for a while. Before I go, I want to wish Happy Birthday to Daniel Kaluuya, Sean Astin, James Wan, Javier Bardem, Lupita Nyong’o, Bryce Dallas Howard, Daniel Craig and George Miller.

Finally, I want to dedicate this column to my grandfather, who passed away on Sunday.
