The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Harry is done now~

THURSDAY

During the roundtable interviews at San Diego Comic-Con, Benedict Cumberbatch, Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat talked with Collider about Sherlock series 4. Vaguely. They talked about the evolution of Sherlock as a character (and what stayed the same), and, among other things, Toby Jones’s villain and how he fares against the other villains we have seen on the show:

He’s the darkest villain we’ve had. There was always something charming and engaging about Moriarty. There was something fascinating and actually amoral, rather than immoral, about Charles Augustus Magnussen. This guy is the purest evil. Sherlock is actually appalled by him. He’s the most evil villain we’ve had. I don’t think that when you see it, you will disagree. He’s horrific.

We know that Dwayne Johnson has his own YouTube channel, and we also know that Pokemon GO is what’s popular now, and so PokeRock was born. Yup, he has a Pokemon avatar who makes Youtubers despair because, in Dwayne’s own words, “PokeRock is a dick!”. But that’s now all! PokeRock now has a theme song! And it is sung by the original Pokemon singer (for the English version), Jason Paige. Behold!

FRIDAY

The week ends with Box Office news! Despite less than stellar reviews (right now it’s 26% at Rotten Tomatoes), and DC fans whining so hard they  started a petition to shut down Rotten Tomatoes (which then they renamed to aim at film critics in general after realising Warner Bros. actually owns part of Rotten Tomatoes), Suicide Squad had a great debut on Thursday evening with $20.5 million! That’s almost double of Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Thursday August record of $11.2 million!

Suicide Squad was also released internationally this week, and the first numbers show that movie has already made an impressive $64.6M after three days in a total 57 markets. In some places, it not only topped Guardians of the Galaxy, but Deadpool and even Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Shannon Purser, aka Barb from Stranger Things had twitted last week on her interest on playing Squirrel Girl (a way better choice than Anna Kendrick, IMO). Not that there’s even a hint that she could be part of the MCU. Personally, I would love a Netflix series. That or she appears just at the end of fight with Thanos in some Avengers movie and beats his ass! But then she expanded, comic and cosplay fan that she is, on the fantastic idea during an interview:

I think Squirrel Girl is just adorable but at the same time is totally boss and completely awesome. I think people need a character like that. It’s easy in the superhero realm to feel like a lot of the female superheroes we see are grown women who are super responsible and know what their purpose is and that kind of thing. Squirrel Girl is a little bit younger and like a real person, trying to figure out her life and then also having to save the world. I love that.

And that’s it for the week. Before I go, I want to wish Happy Birthday to Christopher Nolan, J.K. Rowling (and Harry Potter), Jason Momoa, Wes Craven, Evangeline Lilly, James Gunn and Mark Strong.
