The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Fully Assembled!

SUNDAY

In box office news, with $389 million to $387.3 million, Wonder Woman passed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and has become the biggest movie of the US of A summer!

We had low-res versions of all three segments, and finally we were shown the assembled poster of Avengers: Infinity War. Thanks to concept artist Ryan Meinerding, here we have a fantastic look at Earth’s Mightiest Heroes joining forces to battle the Thanos and his squad, the Black Order.

Talking about SDCC posters, here’s the one for Ant-Man and The Wasp! Besides the titular characters, we have Michael Douglas’ Hank Pym and Michael Pena’s Luis in the background… And I image that kid is Cassie Lang?

The fabulous Taika Waititi, director of Thor: Ragnarok, talked about challenging Thor, paying homage to Planet Hulk, and his fascination of Bruce Banner and The Hulk:

I’m always fascinated by the duality of Hulk and Banner and how their brains could be interconnected and could we see Hulk and have a bit of Banner’s voice in there? Could we have Banner and kind of see Hulk’s personality through there? And I think in this film, we’re going to see that for the first time, where they’re fighting – really fighting – for control of the body, and Hulk talking, this idea of a more cognitive Hulk who can say sentences, that is a…obviously it’s in the comics, it was something that fans want to finally see.

At SDCC, we also had the trailer for this year’s Doctor Who Christmas Special: “Twice Upon A Time”:

MONDAY

Director Joe Russo talked on the SDCC about Avengers: Infinity War because of course they did! Joe Russo specifically wants to turn Thanos into the next Darth Vader. Man, he sure dreams big! Color me sceptic, but I sure wish him luck!

The stakes are incredibly high. I wanted to turn Thanos into Darth Vader for a new generation. He’s an incredibly intense character. Sociopathic. He takes no prisoners. I think the audience needs to be prepared when they go see these movies.

Joe Russo also told us to be prepared for the emotional impact his film will deliver. No problem, man, I am ready to be emotionally compromised. I know many of the actors’ contracts are ending dammit!

I think fans should prepare for some very intense surprises in these movies. My brother [Anthony Russo] and I believe in stakes. I believe that everything has to come to an end at some point in order for it to have value. I think the audience should be prepared.

I know I shouldn’t laugh at other people’s misfortune but Schadenfreude is also my favourite German word. Anyway, Justice League‘s extensive reshoots are giving everyone in charge of the DCEU headaches… mostly because the $25 million they will be expending for those. Mostly because Ezra Miller and Henry Cavill are busy with other movies, the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel and the sixth Mission: Impossible respectively. Also, Paramount is being petty and I love it. Yep, they won’t let Henry Cavill shave his mustache, so Warner will have to fix his Superman scenes with CGI. OMG, I can’t.

Pearl Mackie confirmed Bill Potts is leaving Doctor Who at the (unrecorded) panel at SDCC. Yep, that Christmas speciall will be our “last chance to see Bill”. But she also said, “But, I mean, hey, it’s Doctor Who, so never say never!”. Just one season of Bill Potts ain’t enough dammit. I wanted her interaction with the new Doctor! Michelle Gomez confirmed her time as Missy/The Master is over too.
