The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Divided we fall

TUESDAY

Here’s all the gang in the New Legends of Tomorrow trailer, premiering on January 21st!

John Carpenter ain’t wasting time! Sandy King Carpenter, his wife and frequent producer/collaborator, said he’s developing 4 new TV shows! She didn’t specify a lot, and yet I am still excited!

Right now, there’s four series waiting to go to network. As far as I’m concerned, we’ll do all of them. I mean, they’re great, and they’re different from anything that’s out there, and they again push the boundaries of what’s horror. [John] would be directing pilots and we would be executive producing them. There’s sci-fi, there’s horror, there’s one that I guess would be [a] sci fi-horror futuristic kind of thing. They’re all across the board. I think they’ll fulfill what people expect out of him by also being unpredictable.

Here’s a picture of The Doctor and River Song in this year’s Doctor Who Christmas Special. The both look awesome! Also, here’s the synopsis of said episode~

It’s Christmas Day on a remote human colony and the Doctor is hiding from Christmas Carols and Comedy Antlers. But when a crashed spaceship calls upon the Doctor for help, he finds himself recruited into River Song’s squad and hurled into a fast and frantic chase across the galaxy. King Hydroflax (Greg Davies) is furious, and his giant Robot bodyguard is out-of-control and coming for them all! Will Nardole (Matt Lucas) survive? And when will River Song work out who the Doctor is? All will be revealed on a starliner full of galactic super-villains and a destination the Doctor has been avoiding for a very long time.

Empire revealed their exclusive Star Wars: The Force Awakens covers and they are amazing! Here are my favourites and the subscriber exclusive cover!

Author Suzanne Collins wrote a very heart-felt “Thank You” letter to entire Hunger Games franchise team and the fans!

For me, The Hunger Games Trilogy is part of a larger goal to introduce the ideas of just war theory to young audiences, but how much wider and more varied an audience came with the films, and the credit for that goes to all of you who contributed so much to this project. Finally, to all the readers and viewers who have accompanied Katniss on her journey, thank you for playing a role in The Hunger Games, you are truly a vital part of the experience.

WEDNESDAY

The Captain America: Civil War trailer premiered on The Jimmy Kimmel Show, and nearing midnight all the fans were sharing it like crazy, while gifs were created, and youtubers furiously recorded their reactions. All was good in geekdom. Anyway, here’s every hint and clue (at least according to io9) hidden in said trailer in the form of lots of GIFs. Also, comicbook did a Top 5 moments (which include Black Panther, Iron Man being sad, and Bucky and Cap double teaming Iron Man), and the many (or rather 6) questions (like, where is Nick Fury, Ant-Man and Vision, and is Rodhey going to die… he better not!) the trailer raised. Finally, Joe and Anthony Russo did the good old trailer breakdown, for Empire Magazine, answering some questions like what are those Accords about?

It has to do with the effects of Ultron and Sokovia [the small city that Ultron tried to drop on the Earth from a great height at the end of Age Of Ultron], and New York City [roundly trashed at the end of The Avengers], and Washington D.C. [nearly devastated by falling helicarriers at the end of Captain America: The Winter Soldier]. Examining the third acts of all the Marvel movies, we’re saying, if you could point to the collateral damage in all those incidents, could you use that against the Avengers to control them?

Anyway, here are three new posters for Captain America: Civil War~

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be rated PG-13, which mean this is the only Star Wars film to be PG-13 besides Revenge of the Sith. All the other ones have been rated PG. Of course, back then PG was something else. In totally surprising news (not!), Star Wars: The Force Awakens is poised to break Box Office records! Disney is totally downplaying these expectations though!

It’s natural for people to want to view this and compare this to a summer blockbuster, but films in December don’t have the same historical release patterns as summer films. In December it’s rare to see a big debut — there’s only a handful above $70 million by the way, with the record being something like $84 million. People are shopping, they’re traveling, they also know that their kids are going to be on vacation in a week and they’re going to all go see movies together.
