The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Discover The Women

Greetings, fellow fangirls and fanboys! This week we had our first look at Star Trek: Discovery and it is amazing. Also, we are getting ready for Wonder Woman, and many TV and Netflix news! Here’s how the week started:

SATURDAY

Damn, Ursula K. Le Guin’s Left Hand of Darkness is coming to TV! Critical Content has optioned the rights, and author Le Guin will serve as a consulting produce. There’s no confirmed writer or network yet. So what’s the scifi classic about?

Left Hand of Darkness is about a man named Genly Ai who’s sent to the planet of Gethen to convince its people to join a planetary confederation. However, he finds himself unable to do so, due to his ignorance of the planet’s culture. Gethenians are ambisexual, with no fixed gender identity.

SUNDAY

Here’s the first full trailer for FOX and Marvel’s The Gifted. Which is giving me Heroes‘ vibes. But the good first season, so it’s ok. Not sure if I should get attached to it since it is FOX and I am feeling a bit old for that kind of teenage drama, but still… looks good enough, and I will give it a try.

MONDAY

Habemus trailer for Will & Grace revival! Yep, Will & Grace will be back Thursdays this fall on NBC. Still no exact date tho! This was cute and I love the song, and I did like the 2016 election video. So yeah, I will totally watch at least the first episode.

TUESDAY

Did you know that Seth MacFarlane was making a Star Trek parody TV show? Here’s the trailer for The Orville and I might watch it. The Orville is set to air Thursdays at 9pm Fox… still not exact date though!

According to MTV’s Josh Horowitz, Michael Fassbender will be returning as Magneto in X-Men: Dark Phoenix, which will mean he will join James McAvoy’s Professor Xavier in the film. At least according to The Hollywood Reporter. And just like McAvoy, Fassbender wouldn’t be in New Mutants tho. Horowitz shared this info on twitter, which then was sorta confirmed during his Happy Sad Confused podcast, when he just straight asked if Fassbender would be popping into any of Fox’s future X-Men flick. “Possibly, yeah – likely”.

WEDNESDAY

It’s finally here! Our first look at Star Trek: Discovery, with images, and a couple of trailers! The CBS one where the people of the US of A will watch it, and the Netflix one for everyone else! And it’s has ladies of color front and center with Michelle Yeoh as Captain Philippa Georgiou and Sonequa Martin-Green as First Officer Michael Burnham… which pisses off some dumbass white dudes who are totally fake Star Trek fans or they wouldn’t be complaining about something like that. Anyway, here’s the trailer with Spanish subtitles!

The first season of Star Trek: Discovery will consist of 15 episodes (2 more than the 13 originally commissioned). It will be getting a companion aftershow, Talking Trek, in the vein of Talking Dead and Talking Bad.

OMG The Witcher novels/video games will become a new TV series for Netflix! Tomek Baginski of Platige Image, who directed the prelude videos for all three videogames in The Witcher series (here’s a video for reference), is expected to helm at least one episode of the show. And together with Jarek Sawko will help with the executive production. Author Andrzej Sapkowski seems quite happy with it all!

I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing. I’m excited about our efforts together as well as the team assembled to shepherd these characters to life.
