The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Defend!

THURSDAY

HBO doesn’t want to let go such the succesful Game of Thrones altogether, and thus is already eyeing 4 potential spin offs with 4 differente writers. Each of them would explore a different time period of G.R.R. Martin’s universe. No timetable has been set yet, and HBO is willing to take as long as needed and “will evaluate what we have when the scripts are in”.

Yep, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has been totally confirmed for a Broadway opening on April 22, 2018 at the newly renovated Lyric Theatre!

Here’s the first look of Marvel’s Inhumans, and damn they look like not-so-great cosplayers… or the porn parody. No wait, porn parodies may have cheap costumes but at least they are comicbook accurate. Anyway, I think it’s mostly Medusa’s wig fault, poor lady and that awful wig! And where the hell is Lockjaw?

On the Marvel/Hulu side of things, we have the first cast picture of Runaways, which is a homage to the comic cover for Runaways: Volume 1. Well, these kids look better, and that’s mostly because they are wearing normal street clothes. Gert looks skinnier than I remember her though.

And back to the Marvel series that actually look good, here are some promo stills from the first episode of Marvel’s The Defenders. They include one of Sigourney Weaver as the villain Alexandra, whom I’ve yet to know who she is exactly. I chose to show the one where they are eating together, because that’s always a great way for showing awkwarness while they get to know each other. Yay!

FRIDAY

Here’s the first teaser of Marvel’s Inhumans, where you see no images but the logo… but you do hear that Iwan Rheon’s Maximus is up to no good. Which is kinda (totally) his thing.

Here’s the first poster of Will & Grace 12-episode-revival series… where it doesn’t show where it premieres dammit. Just “back this fall”, the hell is that! I want an actual date I can mark in the calendar. Anyway, hopefully we’ll get some sort of trailer soon… with a date!

OMG! We are getting a Victorian-era War of the Worlds, courtesy of the BBC! Not much is know, except that it will be told in three parts, will begin filming in early 2018, and will be set in the book’s original location of Dorking, Surrey, England. Writer Peter Harness had this to say:

I’m feeling phenomenally lucky to be writing The War Of The Worlds, and blowing up gigantic swathes of the home counties at the dawn of the 20th Century. Wells’ book is ground zero for all modern science fiction, and like all the best sci-fi, manages to sneak in some pretty astonishing comments on what it is to be a human being too. I’m hoping to follow in the great man’s footsteps by making a terrifying, Martian-packed series which manages to be emotional, characterful, and – deep breath, dare I say it – even political at the same time.

DC Comics will start its own Young Readers imprint in 2018. Which is great since there are no major efforts to cater to younger readers at some of the biggest comics publishers.

And that’s it for the week. Before I go, I want to wish Happy Birthday to Gal Gadot, Sam Heughan, Wes Anderson, Dwayne Johnson, Pom Klementieff, Rebecca Hall, John Rhys-Davies and Henry Cavill.
