The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Come as you are~

FRIDAY

SDCC posters! We have Wonder Woman (in all its classical blue/orange color pattern glory), Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (that looks like The Great Gatsby), Kong: Skull Island (that looks like Godzilla), LEGO Batman Movie (where Lego Bruce Wayne has nice hair!) and Starz’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods (with what looks like a nice Americana tattoo!).

Talking about American Gods, Emmy and Tony Award winner Kristen Chenoweth will be there! As Easter! Co-showrunner Bryan Fuller announced it during the panel. She then appeared and claimed to be happy to be reunited with Fuller, whom she worked with in his gone-before-its-time series Pushing Daisies. During the panel, it was also revealed that Gaiman might write an American Gods sequel novel. And of course we got a trailer!

On more awesome series news, Netflix announced via twitter that BoJack Horseman got renewed for a season 4!

At the SDCC, Fox released the trailer for their new The Exorcist series, coming this fall. Which makes me wonder how are they going to turn this into a sustainable series. I will still give it a shot because OMG Geena Davis! Also, hey Alfonso Herrera. I see you keep getting jobs. Good for you! BTW, I appreciated the classic theme at the end of the trailer~

OMG! Marvel announced that Ghost Rider will be joining Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.! And they showed a teaser and a poster. OK, this one is not the more iconic versions of Johnny Blaze or Danny Ketch, and Robbie Reyes just debuted in 2014 on Marvel Now! All-New Ghost Rider series. But he was adorbs, and here’s his backstory to prove it!

The Mexican-American teen was gifted the power of Hellfire after he was tragically gunned down during a street race where he was attempting to win money to move him and his younger, disabled brother out of their seedy neighborhood. However, Reyes was revived by a spirited named Eli who revived Reyes (complete with hellish powers!) in exchange for the teen’s help in avenging Eli’s death.

In surprising news in this day and age, Marvel has hired the first black women writers for World of Wakanda: the feminist writer Roxane Gay and the poet Yona Harvey. The comicbook is a companion title to Black Panther, written by Ta-Nehisi Coates, who is the one who recruited both writers. World of Wakanda Issue #1 will feature two stories. One written by Gay, focused on Ayo and Aneka, lovers and former members of the Dora Milaje who are now attempting to travel Wakanda as fugitives as tensions and unrest grows, doing what they think is right to protect their homeland in the place of a king who’s not currently at his best. The other written by Harvey is centered around Zenzi, a revolutionary who sees Wakanda’s monarchy as an affront to its people. That first issue will drop in November, but I want it now!

Finally, DC Comics and Nickelodeon announced a new Batman/TMNT Adventures miniseries, which will feature Batman and the mutant foursome drawn in the style of the all-around fantastic 1990s Batman cartoon. Not the first time it has happened, but you won’t see me complaining!

The series will feature Batman enlisting the help of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles after a band of Arkham escapees flee to New York City. The Turtles’ own adversaries will also join the fray, hoping to take advantage of the chaos in New York City.

And that’s it for the week. Before I go, I want to wish Happy Birthday to Donald Sutherland, Priyanka Chopra, Vin Diesel, Benedict Cumberbatch, Juno Temple and Willem Dafoe.
