The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Come as you are~

TUESDAY

OMG! Netflix has scored exclusive international rights to CBS’s new Star Trek series. So yep, each new episode will be available 24 hours after its premiere on the CBS app in all countries, except USA and Canada which have previous deals. Netflix has also gotten the rights to air every episode of the original Star Trek and all of its spinoffs to be available by the end of this year (currently only on US Netflix). This is what, Sean Carey, VP global television at Netflix:

Star Trek is one of the most iconic shows in television history and we’re thrilled to partner with CBS to bring the beloved series to Trekkies around the world. The newest chapter of the story promises to continue the rich tradition of adventure and is sure to excite fans everywhere Netflix is available.

As part of their Comic-Con preview, USA Today showed off a brand new picture from the Power Rangers movie… all Rangers unmasked:

WEDNESDAY

Here’s the first look of Captain America real-life 13 feet bronze statue! Also, a tie-in comic (available at SDCC and special Captain America events in the near future) will also weave the statue into the fabric of Marvel continuity~

Other previews and first looks ahead of SDCC were, for instance, 4 new images from the upcoming The LEGO Movie spinoff, The LEGO Batman Movie, giving us our first glimpse of The Joker, Harley Quinn, and Robin… who looks dorky and adorable. The movie is set to hit theaters February 10, 2017 in the US of A.

Another debut was a teaser poster for the upcoming revival of DuckTales. We get to see triplets Huey, Dewey and Louie, along adorable/annoying Webbigail and Donald within the silhouette of Scrooge McDuck. The show is set to premiere next year on Disney XD.

But not everything was cute cartoon news, we also had a new poster and trailer for Starz’s Ash vs Evil Dead season 2!

On not-so-great Starz news, a 10-episode fourth season of Black Sails may have been ordered to debut in 2017, but the premium cable network said that will also be the show’s last. FYI, the series worked as a prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island, and it was getting better and better each season! I’m glad it won’t be a show that won’t overstay its welcome though. Co-creator and executive producer Jonathan E. Steinberg had this to say:

It’s a rare privilege in television to be given the kind of creative freedom we’ve enjoyed on this show over the last four years. While it was a difficult decision for us to make this season our last, we simply couldn’t imagine anything beyond it that would make for a better ending to the story nor a more natural handoff to Treasure Island.
