The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Aye-yi-yi!

TUESDAY

Marvel is launching a new She-Hulk series! And I sincerely hope it has a better fate than the last one. Which sucked because it was great (the art took time to get used to tho!). But this new comicbook is different. Axel Alonso, editor-in-chief at Marvel, said, it ain’t gonna be light-hearted and Jennifer Walters ain’t gonna in full control of her powers. Which is understandable considering the sucky, sucky time she has had during Civil War II. Homegirl was nearly killed in a battle between the Avengers and Thanos, and when she woke up from an extended coma, Jennifer was stunned to learn that her cousin Bruce Banner had died. Dammit, Hawkeye! The new series will be written by Mariko Tamaki, and Nico Leon will be in charge of the art.

Chadwick Boseman made it clear that while Black Panther comes after Captain America: Civil War as far as timeline is concerned, it will still explore the titular character’s origins.

If you saw the tease at the end [of Civil War] in Wakanda, that’s more mystery there so I think there’s a lot to reveal about the character. There is definitely more of his origin in Black Panther. You’re going to learn about Wakanda, its culture, its traditions, the past. You can go through all the comic books and know that there’s more Panthers that have existed in the past – that’s origin.

Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg said that Jessica Jones season 2 will continue to deal with her trauma, which is realistic and I approve of it.

“[Jessica Jones] was kind of messed up even before Kilgrave came along, and so in Season Two we can explore what’s possible for her moving forward. […] People don’t just heal; you don’t go through that just to say, ‘Oh, he got arrested, he’s in jail, I’m OK now.’ That trauma is a huge part of who she is now.”

OMG! And animated Indiana Jones fan film is coming to us! And I mean soon! September 29th soon! Artist Patrick Schoenmaker basically started with the project when Lucasfilm commissioned him to create an official print envisioning the world of Dr. Jones in animated form.

Just a little disclaimer though, please don’t expect a full feature film, or even a 20-minute episode. Animation is a lot of work and there’s only so much you can accomplish with a small team of 1 and a handfull of assistants. Think more like something along the lines of a fully-animated proof of concept.

WEDNESDAY

Entertaiment Weekly gave away the first details on The Dark Tower‘s companion TV series… which will totally include Idris Elba. Like it will be an adaptation of the fourth entry in Stephen King’s saga, Wizard and Glass. Also, Dark Tower director Nikolaj Arcel and his co-writer Anders Thomas Jensen are both contributing scripts to the TV series, which is planned to run for 10 to 13 episodes.

A fellow YAM writer made me aware of this: there will be a Monkey King x Hanuman superhero movie at the hands of Stan Lee in a China/India co-production. And OMG, is this the real life? So, what we know about this Monkey Master will ideally get into production in the fourth quarter of 2017, the shooting language would most likely be in English, and the helm is likely to be a western director. Stan Lee is quite happy, since he has “always been fascinated by the Chinese and Indian cultures”, and promised us a hero that will entertain us with “martial arts skills and unstoppable super-powers”.

The teaser trailer for Anastasia: The Musical has been released! And I almost started crying the moment I heard “Journey To The Past”. Heart don’t fail me now, indeed! The Broadway musical begins previews on Broadway March 23 and opens April 24 at the Broadhurst Theatre.
