The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: A passion for animation~

TUESDAY

CBS Chairman Nina Tassler said that my future favourite ridiculous DC TV show Supergirl will atract a “bigger, broader audience” than my current favourite ridiculous DC TV show Gotham. And she is totally right! I mean regular Joe & Family will rather watch a nice-looking comicbook-inspired TV show than a gritty one.

Tom Hardy may have left Suicide Squad (and I am forever sad for that) because of scheduling conflicts but he hasn’t said good-bye to DC comicbook movies yet! Dude will be Agent Graves in 100 Bullets! Whassat, I hear you say? It’s the one where Hardy’s character “presents different people, for reasons unknown, with a gun, the identity of the person who ruined their lives … and a hundred rounds of untraceable ammunition”. Well, that sounds interesting!

Now, as for this week’s first blast from the past: Beetlejuice 2 is totally happening, after all! It’s been a while since I heard this one, that I was starting to forget about it. But nay! Winona Ryder herself confirms she’ll jump in the line and rock her body in time! She doesn’t know much about it yet tho, so now we wait~

The second blast from the past comes courtesy of The CW, which is actively developing a Friday the 13th TV series. Yep, we better be ready for Jason Voorhees every week on our TVs! I don’t have many specifics on this, except that it will be more drama than horror, and “Jason is being reimagined with a stronger feel of grounded reality”. Eh, I’ll give it a chance.

WEDNESDAY

It may have a dragon and Maisie Williams, but Game of Thrones this ain’t! Here’s the second trailer for Doctor Who Series 9!

After a couple of interesting tweets from Matt Ryan (of Constantine fame) and Stephen Amell (from Arrow), it was confirmed: We will see Constantine again! This time in Arrow. What is he doing here? Remember how Sara Lance died in Arrow Season 3, then how is she supposed to be in Legends of Tomorrow as White Canary? Why, with help from John Constatine of course! This is what Arrow executive producer Wendy Mericle had to say about it:

It was born more out of the storyline for Sara Lance. We needed someone to come in and help bring her back. He felt like the most exciting possibility and we’re just thrilled to get him. He brings such a different element to the show.

Here’s the first clip of The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar! It’s a TV movie premiering in November on Disney Channel, and it’s a precursor of The Lion Guard TV series, which we will see next year. So, what is it about? The adventures of Kion, the second-born cub of Simba and Nala, as he assumes the role of leader of the Lion Guard, a team of animals tasked with preserving the Pride Lands. B-But what about Kopa from The Lion King: Six New Adventures books! Poor thing never got a chance since Kiara was created. And now that Disney decides to use a new male cub for Simba and Nala, they create a totally new character! OK, this isn’t really important and I guess Disney can retcon it like they did to Star Wars expanded universe, but still! #JusticeForKopa! I have a lot of feels, OK? Also, did Kion got a cutie-mark at the end of the clip?!

Lucy Lawless crushed our hopes last month saying that Xena reboot was just a rumor. And yet there can indeed be miracles when you believe. NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt confirmed they are looking for a way to reboot Xena… but will it contain Lucy Lawless?

Yes, we’re in the early stages of developing a new take on Xena and we’re looking for a writer. We want to do it. […] We’d love to have Lucy be a part of it — if we felt that her presence didn’t overshadow the direction we take with it. I’m not sure how she could be part of it if she wasn’t playing Xena, and I don’t know if that’s a direction we’ll ever go

And now for the blast of the past of the day: Dolph Lundgren is filming Kindergarten Cop 2. Yes, the one where Arnold Schwarzenegger plays a cop who goes undercover as a kindergarten teacher. Except now Lundgren and his sidekick Sanjit are “on the trail of a missing flash drive from the Federal Witness protection program”. This is a straight-to-DVD sequel BTW. And I will watch it, yes I will. I liked that movie fine enough back in the day, and I actually like Lundgren~

Entertainment Weekly showed us their Star Wars: The Force Awakens cover, or rather their Kylo Ren cover, and 12 new pictures! Also, J.J. Abrams explains what’s in a name. Star Wars names that is. Including protagonist with no last names (yet), and villains whose real name we are yet to find out~

He is a character who came to the name Kylo Ren when he joined a group called the Knights of Ren,” Abrams says. But that’s as far as the writer-director will go. What are the Knights of Ren? You’re going to have to wait until Dec. 18 to find out.
