The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: A million voices cried out in joy!

THURSDAY

FINALLY! Ewan McGregor’s prayers have been answered and Obi-Wan Kenobi is getting his own damn movie! You see, kids, there CAN be miracles when you believe! in the Works. The project is still early in the works, with Stephen Daldry in talks to head up the project. And sure, Lucasfilm is also considering films centering on Yoda and Boba Fett, among other characters. But this Obi-Wan Kenobi better be the 2020 Star Wars anthology movie, dammit. Also, they better call Ewan McGregor to reprise the role like yesterday dammit. Could you imagine if they make the film without Ewan? Fans will riot!

Patty Jenkins being the director of Wonder Woman 2 is basically a done deal, but this deal will also make her the highest paid female director! Sure, it was a given she will be returning, but there wasn’t an official announcement, possibly due to her negotiating for a higher pay. Wonder Woman 2 will go into production early next year with a release date in December 2019.

Check out this awesome promo art for Avengers: Infinity War! Also, 18 new images from Thor: Ragnarok… which includes the ones already released early this week.

Here’s character trailer for Marvel’s Inhumans, which basically shows all the main players: Gorgon (Eme Ikwuakor), “The Guardian”;  Karnak (Ken Leung), “The Visionary”; Auran (Sonya Balmores), “The Assassin”; Triton (Mike Moh), “The Operative”; Crystal (Isabelle Cornish), “The Princess”; Medusa (Serinda Swan), “The Queen”; Black Bolt (Anson Mount), “The King”; and Maximus (Iwan Rheon), “The Revolutionary”. Yeah right! That’s Maximus The Mad, yo!

Here are some character posters for The Gifted that spotlight the more established mutant characters we’ll get on the show. So, we have Polaris, Thunderbird, Blink, and Eclipse… which everybody thinks will actually turn out to be Sunspot. Anyway, here are the women:

Here’s a new clip from Netflix’s Death Note, that shows L and Light’s meet-cute… and it’s OK? I mean, nothing spectacular, and I do preffer the original one, but this is OK. Also, in my humble opinion, Lakeith Steinfeld is a better actor than Nat Wolff.

Here’s our first look at the main characters for the Frozen musical! The musical adaptation will have a try-out period in Denver from August 17 through October 1, followed by a Broadway arrival in February 2018. Tony-winning director Michael Grandage has this to say:

We’ve got so many assets at our disposal where we can take that whole experience further. We can present things in new ways. We’ve got a bigger narrative arc. We’ve got more songs than the movie, and an opportunity to develop storylines in greater depth. But the thing we can do most of all is have real, live, breathing, beating hearts in front of people in the dark.

FRIDAY

The Defenders premiered on Netflix and here’s the opening title! Also, the series has been officially certified “Fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes with a score of 75%. So congrats, and good to know the Marvel/Netflix team-up is still working fine after that hiccup known as Iron Fist!

But Netflix also debuted a first teaser trailer for their next Marvel show, The Punisher, at the end of The Defenders.

And that’s it for the week. Before I go, I want to wish Happy Birthday to Sebastian Stan, Mila Kunis, Jennifer Lawrence, Ben Affleck, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Taika Waititi, Angela Bassett, Robert De Niro, Edward Norton and Robert Redford.
