Music Mondays: The Most Important Video On The Internetz!

Wednesday:

Just when we were getting some fun in the week, we get more news of heartbreaking loss. David Bowie’s bassist, Trevor Bolder, lost his battle with cancer at the age of 62. Bolder provided the groove and funk of Bowie’s work in the 70s. Again, another brilliant musician leaves us. You will be missed, sir. Your unparalleled groove provided some of the funkiest music. You can read more about it here.

Last week I was going to post the videos for Kanye West’s performance of his latest singles Black Skinhead and New Slaves. Well, it wasn’t until Talib Kweli posted them on his Twitter that I could actually see them. Man, ‘Ye! What can I say? I love ya! Man, does Ben Affleck look uncomfortable… HaHa!

If anyone here knows or is a fan of Sophie Delila, you are in luck! Backstage Pass tweeted that they have four pairs of tickets to see the singer/songwriter live at London’s Jazz Cafe on June 13. If you’re interested or want more information on the singer and the concert, read here.

So many awesome singles were released today. Who knew Wednesday could be such a great day for music. One of my favorite singers, Goapele, finally released her video for single Undertow [MV], Pharrell dropped his latest song Happy for the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack [1] (not to be confused with the song of the same name from NERD’s 2008 album Seeing Sounds), and we’ve got an out of control bit of flow from artist Intalek in single Ecstasy [MV]. But the performance of the day has got to be British singer Charli XCX performing her rendition of the Backstreet Boys’s I Want It That Way. Whatcha think?

And we go from a cover of a song that I never liked even has a hardcore BSB fangirl, to one of my favorite house songs. Jessie Ware remade Modjo’s Lady (Hear Me Tonight). Just… I can’t be more in love with people who dare to remake great songs! Ms. Ware definitely did not disappoint [1].

Marcel Rodriguez-Lopez, keys and percussion of band The Mars Volta, has released his debut album, Music for Mothers. MTV Iggy has shown us immense graciousness and provided the link to the album stream. You can check out the synth-heavy debut here!

And one of my newest obsessions, band and movement Watch The Duck, had an interview with indctxposure. I. Love. This. GROUP!!!! They talk about their inspiration, what their music is made of, and the craziest shit they’ve ever seen at a house party.

As unexpected as my path was to loving all things weird, more unexpected is my ability to get attention for writing about the stuff.
