iTunes: Is It Finally Time for Music of the World for the World?

I haven’t had the chance to browse through the Japanese section of it yet, but it’s such a curious thing that K-Pop and J-Pop get their own labels while C-Pop gets dumped in the regular categories depending on whether something is more Rock or Pop influenced. Though, I guess that’d be a good thing? In any case, it makes it really hard to search for — once again due to database consolidation.

As you can see, you can find A-Mei Chang on the Rock bit for AMIT, while there are also listings for Yoga Lin, Stefanie Sun’s It’s Time, and Leehom Wang’s The 18 Martial Arts — Leehom has most of his discography on.

The American section of the store might also have a consolidation problem, considering that by checking Keith Urban’s Days Go By has several copies of it with different prices for the same track. While the French Pop section gets all the pop in French from France’s Christophe Maé to Montreal’s 3 Gars Su’l Sofa — I had gotten accustomed to the French Canadian section in iTunes Canada, LOL.

Anyway, what my little heart wanted to know was whether I could find Mainland China music — specifically Bibi. And YES, there was. I haven’t been able to find anything I’ve been trying to locate through the search form, like “Faye Wong” or “Wang Fei,” but like I said~ there are consolidation and arrangement problems in their database. I did see Andy Lau had been mislabeled as K-Pop, though. xD

So Peruvian Kpop, Jpop, Cpop fans — are you going to start spamming iTunes buys with them? Or is iTunes an issue because it works just with credit cards?

So are you spending any more money than you already do supporting the arts?

@ghost, I still have an issue with digital content pricing… but if I like the song and I want to support the artist, I could dish $1 for their song. Sure.
