Amy’s Top50 Songs of 2017

2. La Vida Bohème – Você

[1]

Latin America still gets the best political anthems, I’m telling y’all. Check out the amazing lyrics here.

You can get the song on iTunes or get physical copy on Amazon.

1. Doughnuts Hole – The Adult Code (おとなの掟)

Here it is~ MY favorite song all year long, even before I got to watch Quartet or got to read the lyrics of the song. Written by Shiina Ringo, the song (just like the series does) talks about the all the gray decisions we make, all the gray areas in life and all the gray positions we take in a life that are neither black nor white as we swim in our own mediocrity for something better.

It’s pessimistic, in a sense, but so freeing, to understand that we’re not all great and that we should strive to make ourselves happy within those ranges. xD The fact that the Doughnuts Hole version; done by the Hikari Mitsushima, Takako Matsu, Ryuhei Matsuda and Issei Takahashi in their respective roles; is done by people more known for their acting abilities than their singing/musicianship just adds another layer to the song, than the version Shiina Ringo (who just exudes extra talent in whatever type of music she decides to take on) does.

The whole concept of Doughnuts Hole, as explained in the show, is that the group is the leftover dough from the donuts, that which you take out to make the hole in the donuts.

Here’s the full track, just in case.

You might be able to get the track on iTunes. The version Shiina Ringo included in Reimport, Vol. 2 (逆輸入 ~航空局~) is also available.

So that was it!

What were your favorite songs this year?

Did you like any on this list?

Remember that you can check out all (or most of the songs) on these YouTube or Xiami playlists. You are welcomed~

second, really like the drama of Chen Weilun and Ding Wei
surprised to see that Rene/Residente made a song that fits a lot of your aural aesthetic…then again he is always exploring

and yeah, Latin America makes some of the best political anthems.

I feel like Macy Gray was popular a while ago but peaked around the time she was in Spider-Man. Still hear one of her Christmas songs in the store during retail work

Was Macy Gray in Spider-Man???? I can’t remember AT ALL. lol
I was really surprised Residente came up with a song like Apocaliptico (Idiotas almost took its place, coz lol so funny, so relatable~), but he just really surprised me with this one.

Chen Weilun is like, so Western sounding, but the whole Chinese poetry makes it so Chinese without going overboard with traditional instruments.

I find it interesting that most songs Shiina has been releasing are jingles or TVCM songs, but they’re so good, they’re just songs that happened to be used in commercials. lol I was looking back and was taken aback by the fact that God nor Buddha was a TVCM for LG. xDDDDD
