Amy’s Blast from the Past: Marvel Pepsi Cards!

This is TRULY a Blast from the Past.

In just three years, this collection of Marvel cards will turn 20 years old. I dunno about you, but back then, when they had just released this Pepsi promotion, we were all crazy about them. It was not only about getting Pepsi products, but I would also save lunch money to buy stand-alone Pepsi cards from the guy on the school’s corner. Those guys used to have EVERYTHING… even those Saint Seiya collectible toys.

Then, to complete the collection, you would play for them. Betting your precious cards for the chance to win one that you were missing. Gambit was my prized card. I won many cards because of Gambit. LOL

I remember playing during lunch breaks, putting the cards on the school’s stair steps, trying to flip them over with your thumb. I even played on the school bus on the way home. The simple times, huh?

Of course, my prized card — my most cherished one was my Spiderman hologram, simply because it was the only hologram that I got by chance, and my cousin tried to cheat me out of it by giving me three regular cards for it.

What do kids collect these days?

You know, I have no idea. I know that some trends repeated themselves, like pogs and stuff. Believe or not, Pokemon is still pretty at large. I think kids collect cellphones nowadays…

@Julyssa Diaz, what did you use to collect? My cousin used to collect pokemon pogs – in Spanish pogs were called “taps” LOL and then we had sticker albums. xD I think they still have them, but I haven’t heard if they’re as popular as they were.
